Toddler Mind F*#@s

@jfresh Post below has thinking... Emery has totally started to play me like a fiddle over food. Most of the tantrums in this house are food related. Girlfriend likes her food. Anyway, I noticed the other day she has really gotten savvy. If we are at Target or whatever she knows I come prepared with snacks because God forbid she hasn't eaten in the last 15 minutes. She will start out with a gamble food like lollipop. I sometimes have a dum dum for emergency I need you to be quiet situations. Here is a rundown of a typical shopping trip.

E: mama please pollipop?
Me: no I don't have a lollipop. Sorry. Would you like a granola bar?
E: Waaaah snack? Please snack? (Fruit snack)
Me: I don't have any fruit snacks. I have a granola bar. Or I have goldfish. Want goldfish?
E: Nooooooo! Waaah! Snack! Snack! Rasins?! Please! RAISINS!!
Me: I don't have raisins! I have a granola bar.
E: Strawries!!! Strawries!!
Me: no we are at the store strawberries are at home. Look I found raisins (thank you jesus!) Here.
E: nom nom nom, all done. Backobar?
Me: dammit! Now I have to give her the granola bar because she knows I have one or WW3 will ensue. Ugh.

She waits me out to see what I really have and then goes back down the list of the loot she knows I have because I offered it up so I can't do the we don't have that trick.

  • Camden has learned to shriek at the top of his lungs when things aren't going his way ie Cortlandt took something from him or they are fighting. He knows if he shrieks (he sounds like he is hurt) we will come running and Cortlandt will get in trouble. We have to be careful now because he is totally crying wolf!

We have sat back and watched and he is quite the bully himself and will take something and them shriek when Cortlandt takes it back. Cortlandt was for a while overpowering him and would take everything just to be a little snot but now I wonder how many times he got in trouble for something he didn't do!

Camden is our sneaky kid and we are learning that he knows how to manipulate us well, they are smart cookies!

That sounds eerily familiar. Mine started out today in the car demanding "yort melts" (yoghurt melts - usually rationed and saved for Hail Mary moments). Didn't get those so she then demanded raisins, almonds, and cheerios - all of which she got because I'm a sucker, and I am just grateful the kid who ate nothing is finally eating.

We then got to Costco and she had a field day with all the samples. (I think she's going through some growth spurt? She was a bottomless pit!). Got a "didn't I just give you one?" comment from a sample lady too thanks to her. She also knows when it pays to be polite. If I look like I'm about to resist, a shouty "More!" becomes a sweet "more please, mama!" She even tries to tell me where to go. When I had had enough of the insistent "go there! there there there!" I told her she was the child and I was the adult and she couldn't boss me around. At which point she snuggled close to me and said "please mama? go there please?" Guess who won that one.

Mahahahaha! Yes! I have to remind her she doesn't tell ME where to go and or to stop it!

Yes. O is already up to tricks. Like, if I say, you will go outside with Daddy after Mommy goes to work, he'll look at me and say, BYE BYE. The other day he put on a 3-act play reviewing and rejecting all the balls in the living room so we would be clear that he wanted the volleyball we keep in the closet for outside only.

We go through the exact same thing! I got into the bad habit of giving her a "treat" while we are shopping to keep her quiet and now she demands it or has a huge meltdown. The treats are usually fruit snacks or granola bars too. I've been trying to wean her off this but it's been so hard!

That is too funny with Emery. Little Sassy pants!

Kellen LOVES timeout. It is the most fun game ever to him. He gets to stand in the corner and then sneak out when I turn my back and smile and laugh and run back to the corner no matter how stern I am with him. And repeat.

He even goes into time out on his own during the day and wants me to "play" timeout with him. What am I going to do with this kid???
