Nursing Bras

I'm thinking that the time is coming for me to invest in some nursing bras.  I have no idea where to start looking, besides Motherhood Maternity & I hated how theirs fit me.  Does anyone have any suggestions for the best brands of underwire nursing bras?  Ideally from a place that I can try them on, instead of ordering them online (but if it comes to this I am willing to give it a try).

Also, I know there is some information out there saying that it's not recommended to use underwire bras while nursing because of the possibility of clogged milk ducts, I have also heard that this is up for debate.  Does anyone have real life experience with using underwire nursing bras?

Most of mine came from Target.  I'd have to go pull them out to remember if they have underwire.  I actually ended up wearing nursing tanks at home because it was just easier and more comfortable.

I tried one from motherhood and hated how it fit me. It dug into my sides something awful. I found one I absolutely love. I may never go back to "regular" bras. It has no underwire, which I was skeptical about at first but it's super supportive and SO comfy. I was a 36DD before pregnancy and am currently a 40E. I love love love my Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra. It's pricy, but SO worth it. I bought mine on Amazon.

ETA: They're very stretchy and will grow with me, which is why I was willing to pay a bit more

  • The only advice I have is get one or two now, but don't spend a fortune until after your milk comes in. Because your boobs can get huge.

As far as underwire goes, I wouldn't stress it. Just make sure that it fits properly.

  • I got some new bras a few months ago at Soma and they told me they just launched nursing bras, too. I plan to check that out soon.

I have Walmart ones that were cheap and no underwire. I found them much more comfortable early on than trying to wear my normal bras, though I preferred nursing tanks for around home.

  • I've discovered that the women's boutique in the hospital that I'm delivering at carries Bravado bras.  We also have a Soma about 5 min away.  I'm definitely going to hit up both of these places to see how their bras fit.  I've never had luck with WalMart/Target bras, so I'm not feeling too hopeful about those, but I'm sure I will give at least try on the Target ones as well.  (I absolutely despise our WalMart so I avoid it at all costs!)
