I can just do basic stuff but have a hard time turning. Can someone point me to a easy to understand video?

I want to make a blanket and I have all this yarn, more than I know what to do with and decided it's time to make something. I get totally lost on if I should do single stitch or double or whatever else.

Do I need to count stitches? Also I am not sure if I turn correctly

Are you following a pattern at all?

yes, you should always count stitches.

As far as turning, you just do so many chains (depends on if you are doing single or double crochet), turn your blanket and start crocheting down the next side.

    No. *hangs head in ahame*

I have a blanket I started when I was about 13......it's still not done.

I'm pretty sure I never counted.
Other than knowing a single stitch I'm lost.

If I were you, I'd watch a video explaining how to make a granny square.  Your blanket can be 1 huge square.  No counting because you are just doing a fixed number (usually 3) of double crochets in each opening (which is a chain space, so you don't even need to stitch inside other stitches), and no turning because you are working around in a circle.  So easy for a first project and looks really pretty in one color or multiple.  In fact, I'm planning to make a throw similar to this https://hopscotchlane.blogspot.com/2012/07/more-yellow.html that matches the nursery colors to keep on my glider.

BTW, the link I posted above has a link to a granny square pattern...  but if you look for "granny square" on YouTube you'll find a bunch.  Which ones are "good" depends on if you're right handed vs. left and how you prefer to learn, but you'll definitely find a bunch of options.

  • Ok I just refreshed myself on turning through the videos. I think I can do this.

  • I crochet and knit. I just finished a granny square blanket in case we have a boy and now doing one in case we have a girl. It's super easy and quick. I'm doing granny square this time b/c I get interrupted all the time and this way I don't lose my place.

I like the patterns on lionbrand.com.
