Anyone with placenta Previa?

Have you had your follow-up ultrasound yet? If so, did the placenta move? Did you have a complete, partial or low lying?
I have a complete and have my follow up in 2 weeks. I hope it moved!

Re: Anyone with placenta Previa?

  • I have low-lying and my ultrasound is in two week.

I have a friend who has partial and at her 28wk ultrasound it was still partial. She has to go back at 32 and 36 weeks.

I have a partial, and my follow-up is at 28 weeks (3.5 weeks from now). Fingers crossed all ours move so we can have whatever birth we want to have, instead of the one we are forced to have!

  • I had vasa previa where the cord was attached low but the placenta was high. It was diagnosed at 20 weeks and had moved up by 26. Not the same thing, but the stress & some ramifications are the same (c-section is only option if it didn't move). Best of luck!!!

They have to check it again. You can not vaginally deliver unless the placenta is at least 2cm away from the cervix. When you have partial or complete, the placenta makes a vaginal birth impossible and you could hemmorage.

With partial or complete you should be on restrictions. Not lifting anything over 25lbs and pelvic rest.

With partial or complete previa they do a c-section early b/c if you have contractions you can hemmorage.

I was told if my placenta does not move then I will have a c-section at 36/37 weeks.

  • I was diagnosed with pp at my 20 week u/s.  At my 25 week apt, it had moved and was no longer blocking.

  • I had some spotting about 9 weeks ago so they got me in for an ultrasound. The doc said I had a low-lying placenta but he wasn't concerened. Then I had bleeding again 3 weeks ago. Called doctor's office again and they said they thought I had just overworked myself a little bit when I had raked our yard earlier that day. But I lift weights when I work out, so I'm not convinced that was the problem.

I have my mid-pregnancy ultrasound next Tuesday, so I'm really nervous they're going to say I have placenta previa. All the research I've done about my "symptoms" is consistant with previa. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I've mentally prepared myself just in case.

  • I hope all of ours move!!!
Unfortunately not sure how often completes move. My dr said it didn't have much to move , so I guess we'll see.
  • Mine was still partial at 21 weeks, by followup 25 week scan it had resolved, will have an additional check to ensure all is well around 34 weeks.
  • This thread has raised some questions for me. My OB diagnosed my low-lying placenta at my 20 week scan and I have had an ultrasound every 4 weeks since then to monitor for movement. However, at my 28 week appointment my husband asked her what happens if there isn't any movement detected and she said it just changes the birth plan - we could be making the plan up to a week before the due date. Okay, that all makes perfect sense to me.

What I don't get is why I need an ultrasound at each visit until then. She even had me schedule one at the hospital (versus in her office, where I typically get them done) just to get a "second set of eyes" on it. Today, I got a bill for $135 for the FIRST post-A/S ultrasound and I was told I can expect the same for each subsequent ultrasound! I cried. Thankfully, shortly afterward I also noticed that I've met my deductible for the year so I guess in the end it doesn't matter, but I'm really starting to wonder if all the monitoring is necessary or if it's just a way for the OB to bill insurance for additional services. I could see scheduling a final ultrasound to check for placenta position closer to the due date, say in the last month of pregnancy, with plenty of time to plan for the birth. But in the meantime, it seems like a lot of unnecessary checking.

Has anyone else had this experience? Did your OB provide any additional information on why things need to be monitored so closely?
I've just been on rest. Nothing about movement was mentioned and I had my A/S where I was diagnosed and have a follow up at 28 weeks.

  • I had a complete at my anatomy scan and will be having a follow-up u/s a week from tomorrow.  I haven't had any issues, so I'm hoping it's moved and I can move forward with planning a VBAC.

  • Looks like Ill def be addressing this at my appt tmw. I wasnt put in any restrictions si maybe it was just low lying.
