December 2013 Moms

Worst mom of the year

Took LO into a public bathroom to change him. This is the nicest I've been too: whole counter and a pad. Well I let LO sit to grab a new outfit after a huge blowout. I was standing right next to him but just totally blanked to put my hand on his back while grabbing the new outfit and he fell backwards and hit his head on a straight edge. Minimal crying but the spot on the back of his head turned red and there's a tiny bump. I feel absolutely horrible and am taking him in just to double check everything is ok. So far he isn't acting different and it happened about two hours ago. I definitely learned my lesson!

Aww. Poor baby. I'm sure he is fine. Don't beat yourself up, shit happenes sometimes and he's good.

  • Hey, it happens. The same thing happened to me inside the car. LO slammed her head against the door. Glad you're taking him in! Better to be safe. And remember, it's the first of many accidents to come. Definitely not your fault.

  • Don't beat yourself up - it happens. DH was changing LO's diaper on Mother's Day and he turned his back for 1 second and she rolled off the bed. He caught her right before she hit the floor but she cried like she has never cried before, only calming down when I put a bottle in her mouth. She wasn't hurt, just startled and got over it relatively quickly - much quicker than DH got over it.

  • We've all had those moments.  You learned from it, and next time you'll be careful!  Don't beat yourself up over it.  :)

  • Hugs! It certainly wasn't on purpose so try not to beat yourself up. We have all (or will be) there :) The fact that you're worried enough to take him in makes you a pretty darn good momma in my book.

  • I feel you on this! I fell down the stairs holding LO and I almost didn't get over it. Glad to hear you are taking your LO in, but you for sure didn't do anything wrong.
  • My DD rolled off the couch and onto a hardwood floor, about 2 feet high, and hit her head. She cried like she had never cried before. I was a mess. She was fine after about 2 minutes, but I still took her to the pedi. He told me she was fine, probably just shaken up, and that she had recovered long before I will. As long as the pupils are the same size and they're acting normal, not to worry too much bc bumps will happen. Babies are resilient.
  • Pediatrician said he was perfectly fine but it helped to put my mind at ease. Thanks for all the kind words!

You are not a bad mom! Accidents happen and chances are it upset you more then lo. My DS rolled off the couch when he was a few months old and 2 1/2 years later I still feel horrible and sick to my stomach about it.
