1st birthday party location

edited May 2014 in July 2013 Moms
Where are you having LO's 1st birthday party? I want to have my LO's party here at our townhouse but I have a big family and my mom thinks I should invite everyone.. blah blah blah.... I'll probably still have it here and just make it work.

Re: 1st birthday party location

  • We are having it at my father-in-law's house. He has a pool and a lot of room.

I'm just going to do an open house here so people can cycle in and out as they want. Ours is low key though, mostly just our friends and a few family members.

If I had a house I would absolutely do it there.  :((

We are doing it at an event space.

    Same for us.
  • We have family disputes going on between both families, so we are going on neutral ground at a play place. Easier for everyone, plus I don't have to clean up!

We are doing our house this time around since we have space for DH's ginormous family (he has 7 siblings, their spouses, 20 nieces and nephews).

With Jack, we lived in a small condo and there's no way that anyone would have fit so we rented a space.

I'm excited to have it at our home :)

Ditto on the excited to have it in our home. Our old house was teenie and we ended up needing to host several first birthday parties for DS. I can't wait to host Liv's first birthday at our home!!
  • I'm ss. I'm hoping my sister's since she has a pool. If she doesn't get a move on and get the pool ready then we'll do a park.

Our house. I know I have a battle coming up when MIL asks me about it. She will expect us to throw a party at their cottage since we will likely be there for his birthday. We are hosting a party at home on the following Saturday. I refuse to do two party just to make her happy. REFUSE.

My MIL always tries to get us to have our kids' christenings & birthday parties at her house rather than our own (hers is bigger). It's super annoying!!
  • We're doing it at our house- just immediate family!
  • We're having it at my in-laws so we can grill outside, it'll mainly be family, and a couple of our friends.

  • Our house inside/outside. It'll be easy to throw some burgers, hotdogs and salmon on the grill and sit out on the patio. I'm excited :)
  • My plan is to have it at our house, but we're going to have scaffolding up around the house while we do an exterior restoration, so I may have to ask my mom if we can do it at her house. It really depends upon how much deck access we have once the scaffold is erected.

  • Our house.  Hoping people will stay outside mostly. :)  It will be small.  Family and a few friends.  I'm not going all out with decorations, maybe a few like some balloons and a cute cake.
After 4.5 years our miracle IVF baby is here!

  • We have two small things planned.
We're in a small neighborhood playgroup and within the playgroup, Tess has a birthday twin.  So we're cohosting a small, low key gathering for the birthday twins which will be at our house.
DH and I are also planning a little day trip around Tess' birthday to celebrate, just the three of us.  We're thinking of going to the aquarium in Baltimore.

She is still mad at me for not having our wedding in their backyard. She brings it up to me at least monthly and probably more often to mh.

We have a great space to have people over and are central to both sides of the family. If it was at her cottage she would be pissed if l invited anybody.
  • We are having his party at a park with a splash pad. Less cleaning and the kiddos, probably about 20, get to play and wear themselves out.

  • We are planning a party at our house. Nothing too big.

We took DS to the aquarium in Baltimore a few weeks ago. He absolutely loved it, especially the jellyfish exhibit. Just so you know, they don't let you have strollers in the aquarium. I'm happy a friend had told me about that before I got there, otherwise I don't know if I would have been prepared to carry him around all day.
  • @thewif85 thanks for the heads up!  I'm excited to bring Tess there, and we will remember not to bring the stroller!

No problem. I was so happy I knew before I showed up. :)

I'd also suggest going in the morning if possible. It got super crowded, even on a weekday.
    I hope you have fun!
  • We live in an apartment and we have a lot of family plus I wanted it outside and that would never work where we live so I rented a shelter at a park. That way the kids can swim/play on the playground if they want. Theres a campground too if anyone wants to camp.

We're having it at a pplayground with a splash pad. Less mess for me to clean up. I don't have to think of how to entertain kids 3 months to 7 years and my dad and BIL will be able to enjoy themselves since they are deathly allergic to cats and we have one.

This thread makes me glad we have summer babies! Grilling, pools, parks!
  • We are having the big party at the in laws down the cape. His actual birthday is during the week and is the same as my brothers so we are hosting a small BBQ that night.

  • Party will be at our house. The kids can play outside and I can cook some yummy food. Usually around 3 years old we do venues that offer play places for the kids.
  • SS. No party. DH/LO & I will probably go out to lunch/dinner and call it a day. I'm starting work the week before so we will be leaving nj where most of our friends and family are anyway. It'll be low key but that's how we like it.
