Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

help with toddler proofing

Hi everyone,
My 2 year old has figured out how to push the lock button on the bathroom door... its the kind that is just a little push button in the center of the door knob.  I'm scared she's going to lock herself in there.  What is the best product to protect the door knob lock?  I don't care of she can turn the knob, I just don't want her to reach the lock.
Thanks!

Re: help with toddler proofing

  • I would keep the door closed and put a knob cover on the handle so she can't open and get in there.  Our knob covers have a giant hole in the middle where the lock button would be so she could still push the lock with the cover on the inside of the bathroom.

  • I'd turn the knob around so the lock is on the outside. Who needs that kind of privacy in your home, at least when you've got a toddler, anyways?
  • She goes in the bathroom all the time because she's potty trained...  Hmm. Maybe I should post this on the 24 month+ board?!  :)  Thanks ladies!

I think turning the knob around so the lock is on the outside is an easy solution then.

This is what we did to DS's room since he will go in there and close it. We didn't want him to lock himself in so we just turned the knobs around.
