Trouble TTC

UPDATE: HSG Results

Hi Everyone,

I just did the HSG today and let me first start this off by saying OUCH!!! :(( That was extremely painful and uncomfortable. Ok after that I was able to see that only my left tube is working. The doctor stated that right didn't even register that there was something near it and mentioned that it was difficult to even try and get the dye in that general area. What are the chances of conceiving using only one side? I am relieved to finally have an answer but also sad because I was hoping everything was normal.

Also, I have my follicle scan scheduled for Saturday, do I push forward with my second IUI given this news? If I do, I am strongly considering on taking a break.

Re: UPDATE: HSG Results

  • Mine was pretty painful, too, and I even took motrin beforehand and everything!  I'm sorry about the right side looking blocked.  I would say it depends on which side you ovulate from, if you ovulate from the left side this cycle, I see no reason to not go forward!

    ::hugs::

  • I'm sorry about your tube. I'd say if you already have been medicated, I'd go ahead with the IUI. I can see reevaluating before doing another cycle though.

  • Sorry about your right tube, but congrats on the left, that's good news!

Since you're already medicated, I would continue with the IUI if the follie is on the left side. But I would also ask the doctor about whether the blocked tube and whatever it is keeping the dye from that area might be causing a hostile environment for implantation (I've heard about that happening from this board - apparently removing a blocked tube can improve fertility for the other one).

    Good luck for this cycle!!

  • My HSG was painful as well. I agree with pp that if you already started meds and see at the scan that you may ovulate on the left, go for it

    4 Losses (2003, 2008, Apr 2012, & Oct 2012)
All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN

  • I think you are right. Onward with the second IUI. Thank you
  • I'm sorry it was so painful for you!  I'm a fellow "left tuber" and my RE said that as long as I have one good tube and produce a follicle on that side I have the same chances as if both tubes were good. FX that you have follies on the left!!

Oh, and like BunnyBerry said a blockage can create a hostile environment but that's typically when the blocked tube is hydrosalpinx which creates a blockage at the end of the tube closer to the ovary. If you didn't get any dye going through your right tube it's not likely the case for you but hopefully you can get more answers from your RE soon!!

  • Oh no now I'm scared for my hsg :/ lol
For what it's worth I lost my right tube and my RE said if my left is clear we shouldn't have any problems conceiving so one tube isn't the worst thing (if there aren't many other factors in play of course) good luck !!

Oh man, I had mine today! Gear up! But the pain only lasts for the 30 seconds or so of the procedure so its all over with quickly :) Its kind of just like a super bad attack of menstrual cramps.
