I'm putting the best nicknames/shortenings next to some of my favorite names and I am curious if you agree:
Boys:
Vincent -- Vince, followed by Vinny
James -- Jim, Jimmy, and Jay in that order
Jason -- Jase, followed by Jay
Michael -- Don't like any. The full name is much too beautiful on its own to be butchered to Mike, Mikey, or Mickey!
Carmine -- Carm, Carminello, Carminuccio
Gianluca -- Gianni
John -- Jack
Anthony -- Tony
Edward -- Eddie, followed by Ed
Robert -- Bobby, followed by Rob
Rory -- Ror
William -- Bill, Billy, Will, and Willy in that order
Girls:
Felicia -- Licia, Leeshee, and Fleesh in that order
Victoria -- Vicki/Vicky, Vick
Isabella -- Isa, Bells, and Izzy in that order
Heather -- Heath
Alison -- Ali
Mikaela -- Mik and "My Mikaela" (I know a family who calls their daughter/granddaughter that as a form of affection sometimes and I think it's adorable)
Ariel -- Arielly
Molly -- Moll
Ashlyn -- Ash
Brittany/Britney -- Britt/Brit and Britt-Britt/Brit-Brit in that order
Kaylan -- Kay
Luisa -- Lu and Lulu in that order
Maria -- Marita (LOVE!)
Rosalia -- Ro and Ro-Ro in that order
Gina -- G
Ava -- Ave
Rosaria -- Ro and Ro-Ro in that order
Madeline -- None. Madeline is too beautiful to be shortened.
Rhianna -- Rhi
Gia -- G
Cristina -- Crissy and Cristy/Cristi in that order
Jamie -- Jame, Jay

As a Heather, I am assuming she means the first syllable of the name Heather, and not the boy's name Heath.
FTR-- I hate being called "Heathe"
