5s experts please come in!!

I didn't read the whole book yet... I am desperate trying to get LO to calm down ... Colicky baby. I did all 5 and she fell asleep in my arms like the little angel that she usually is... Now... Do I put her in her bed and wake her up for her feeding in less than 2 hours? Or do I keep her in my arms until then? And since she doesn't sleep more than 20 minutes at the time and at night not more than 2 hours at the time if I'm lucky do I just repeat the whole 5s cycle again? I just need some quick advice until I go thru the whole book. We just got home after a four hour drive and have about 3 hours a day since Thursday I am exhausted . (6week old EBF ) thanks

  • I repeat as often as necessary! At night I don't wake but during the day I wake to nurse every 2 hours, if she can't nap on her own I do the five s'. As to putting her down you should be able to, though make sure you have a white noise machine on to replicate what you did. I even have an app on my phone when we are out. I also find the tighter the swaddle the better.

I am always feeding her every two- 3 hours during the day. Dr hasn't told me not to do it . She is almost 11 lbs at 6 weeks ,she was born at 8 lbs 10 oz . At night she wakes me up to eat every two almost 3 hours

Where/how are you putting LO down to sleep? In a crib or flat, still surface? Are you stopping the movement and shushing all at the same time? Just some things to think about. Every baby is going to be a little different so you'll have to try to figure out what works for yours, then go with it.

With DS1 he had to be swaddled tight and would only sleep in a swing for a long time. Now one of the twins has started to have a hard time falling asleep. If I have her I can usually swaddle her then do a loud shushing right by her ear and hold her on her side while bouncing/walking/swinging her. I slowly stop doing one thing at a time and transition her into the pnp with her brother. If she wakes up I start over and then try putting her in a rnp so I can rock her once I've put her down as needed. If DH is putting her down he uses the swaddle and puts her in the swing. I transfer her to the pnp after she's been sleeping for a bit.

Sorry, that got kind of long.

My DH and I laughed that one of the s was for "swing"... but it really was like a gentle shake. They just can't say shake, obviously! But if you watch the video, and the way he does it, it is a very gentle shake. So sometimes shaking the baby is ok... just nice and carefully!
