From reading the brag post, it seems like a lot of our babies have one main area of development that is their strongest (even if they are doing great in other areas too.) What's your LO's strongest area of development?

I would say LO's strongest area right now is gross motor skills.  He walks pretty well, crawls, and has even started climbing a bit.  His weakest area would probably be language.  He babbles a lot but hasn't attached meaning to it yet.  He just understands his name, "come here," and a couple of other basic statements.

  • Mine is stronger in gross motor skills. He is very active, crawling, climbing, standing, cruising, and just took his first steps.
But he hasn't said any words yet, just babbles. He doesn't point or clap. I don't think he understands words beside his name.

  • Mine is definitely the king of fine motor skills. He can pick up the smallest piece of dirt from the floor and eat it before I can stop him.

This is Grayson too. He had brown stuff coming out of his mouth one day and I couldn't figure out what it was from. Until I found a tiny piece of dirt in his mouth! Lol so gross.

  • I voted language because she seems to already understand a lot of what we say and says a couple of words now, but she seems either right on track or slightly ahead in everything except her gross motor. She was such a content little pet rock for so long.

  • Fine motor for us bc she can pinch grab food bc she can pick up tiniest pieces of anything and eat them and can definitely move toys from one hand to the other. Language is second bc she understands a lot but no words other than mama, dada and dog. Definitely behind in gross motor-she's still a pet rock :(

  • I picked social. Olivia will be one on June 1st and is just now starting to army crawl but that's because she doesn't have to. She looks at daddy or her big brother and they do everything for her so there's no reason for her to. Grr.

The kid is a social butterfly already though. She loves going to the grocery store and will smile at everyone and stare them down until they acknowledge her and then she's ready to move on. She's never met a stranger and lets anyone hold her and his totally content.

I figure that she won't go to college without being able to walk so I'm trying not to worry about it too much yet.

Mine is average. He was behind in gross motor for a long time, but then he picked up a lot of those skills all at once. I would say he's back to average in those.

N is best with her gross motor skills. She walks really well. She is doing good in all the other areas too but she excels at her gross motor skills the most :) just like her mom and dad!
  • I think the only place she is above average is fine motor. She perfected her pincer grip very early and if I ever have a single strand of hair out of my ponytail she can find it and grab it. She also likes to turn the pages of her books. She babbles but no real words and rarely shows understanding of what we are saying,

Speech for sure here. She says "hot" and "up" every day in context, but has also said hat, rock, on, off, orange, "s", mama, dada and others I am forgetting. She says "arrr!" When you ask what the lion says, blows a raspberry for the elephant, and points to her armpit for a monkey. For dogs she says "Abu!" Which is her own made up word, or may be her attempt to say barking. Not sure. She tries to say Arwin (our dogs name) but it comes out "awwwn" and for our other dog Celie she just says "tthhhssss!" She also says "tthhhsssss" for the ceiling fan. She signs milk, all done, more, up, eat, waves hi/bye. And understands so much it amazes me. Like the other day in the bath, when she tried to stand up I told her no because you will get hurt. And then she pinched me and laughed hysterically when I said "ouch!" Then today she tried standing in the bath again and I said no, again, but this time I said if you fall you'll be ouchy. And she started pinching me! She totally remembered ouch and associated hurt/ouch with pinching. She picks up on the meaning of words really quickly. Even her physical therapist mentioned to me that she thinks she is advanced in her language. It makes me feel like all the constant book reading since day 4 or 5, signing early (started at 2 months old), constantly telling her what i am doing and engaging her in conversation, and leaving the TV off 98% of the time has paid off. Also, her many months as a pet rock gave her the time to focus on language more.

Eta: she also says "ppppp!" When things are dirty, or she hears the words dirty or ahh-cky. She picked it up after I said "pppp! Don't eat that it's ahh-cky" one time. Now she does it all the time.
