Hypnobirthing

So I did a search on the board and found nothing since Nov. so if this has come up recently, please direct me there :) but have any STM's done hynobabies or something similar and how did you like it?  Did you take the class or just use the CD's?  I heard the CD's are mostly a birthing class and if I took a birthing class (which I have already) all I should need are the last disc or 2 with the guided meditation.  I love guided meditation and works for me for other situations that I need calm in, so I'm hoping to give this a shot but not sure how to approach it this late in the game...

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the classes for that are 12+ weeks long, so it's too late at this point?

@pepper6, I have found some weekend classes that are only 3 weeks, but they are super expensive and quite frankly I don't want to sit through a class. I wanted to do the at home version on disc. So I guess I should modify this question to say, exclusively hypnobabies CD's and or any other hypnobirthing on disc...

  • I'm doing hypno babies, which is more of a birth class + self hypnosis/hypno-anesthesia.  I think you would have had to start the program earlier than 35 weeks though.  My midwives office offers hypnobirthing as a class which is also spread out over 5 weeks.  If you can find just the CD's online and start the program immediately, you may still be able to get some benefit from it, from what I can tell it's listening to the tracks repeatedly over an extended period of time that helps to make the program effective, at least for hypno-babies..

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say in my OP that the first few CD's I was told were really just a birthing class and unnecessary (this was told to me by my crunchy birthing class instructor) but am wondering if just doing the last dics are worth it. I did do some youtube versions and thought I fell asleep during them, but then woke up to "6... you are climbing the staircase...7... you are more alert and awake...8.. your eyes are opening..." so I was all "Waaaaat? Did that just possibly work??"

  • For hypno babies all of the CD's are hypnosis, the class part is in a book.  This is from the hypnobabies website, it sounds like they do offer an abbreviated type of schedule:

"The Hypnobabies Home Study is a 5 week program, so the latest you can start is 35 weeks. Babies do come as early as 37 weeks, so 32 weeks is really the latest I would want to start. That would allow you time to finish the whole program by 37 weeks and still have time to practice the tools sufficiently to have a great birth.

If you are starting closer to 35 weeks, here is a link to a Shortened Schedule.

If you are past 35 weeks and just finding out about Hypnobabies, call the main office, they have a special program for moms in your situation. It is not available online, you MUST call! "

Anyone try anything other than hypno-babies that was similar?  For example, I tried the hypnobirthing on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOEWGiiy5sw   and it is with a company called birthrelaxationkit.com.  Anyone hear of that?
