Kids - right handed or left handed?

DS is 2 or 26 months. I have noticed that he will color only with his left hand. Just to experiment, we put the crayon in his right hand. It took him a few seconds of coloring, and he switched it to his left hand. I think he will be/ or is left handed. Is it too early to be able to tell? At what age could you tell your child's hand preference?

I was researching this a bit because DD was using her left for awhile (she's almost 2 1/2). Everything I read said that handedness isn't really solidified until about 4, and kids may switch around before that. Sure enough, she's switched since then.

DS was a pretty strong lefty around 2 and he stayed that way. DD switched back and forth for much longer and is a righty.

Im left handed & my mom said i switched back & forth until i was 4 then stuck to writing left handed but everything else i do right handed.

DS1 has favored his left hand since he was a baby. He obviously wasn't writing or coloring anything but he used it more to feed himself and hold things. He is 4 and still a lefty. He is okay with his right doing some things because inevitably teachers and coaches set him up like a righty a lot of the time.

My middle child is a lefty. He showed a strong preference by 2.5. He would kick a bell with his left foot and do everything with his left hand. My oldest had physical therapy at the time and her PT would include him in games. She agreed he was probably a lefty.

Yeah, I was researching last night too, and what I read said they show preference between 2-4 with it solidified by the time they start kindergarten. Even when he started coloring last summer at 1.5, he would prefer his left hand. He hardly ever switches hands now, which made me curious. We'll just have to see as he gets older!

Eliza is our lefty. We started noticing her preference for left-handedness around 2, maybe a bit before. She's pretty much consistently used her left side for everything since then.

DS is 4.5 and is most definitely left handed. He showed preference around age 2 with coloring too. I'm a lefty! I would never push him to be left handed because it's frustrating at times. But he favors his left hand. He uses it to color, write his name, brush his teeth, hold a fork or spoon. He does struggle at times with cutting since even lefthanded scissors are tough to use. Hopefully he won't hold his pen so oddly like I do. I still drag my hand across the page when writing a letter and smear ink everywhere.

Also, I never switched back and forth. My left hand just always felt natural. DS has switched a bit, but he has always favored his left hand. Now that he's older he never switches.

I'm pretty sure DS1 is going to be a righty. I would never intentionally switch a kid, but I do kind of hope that none of them end up left handed.

DS is a lefty and was showing a preference by two. DD is three and we're pretty sure she's a righty, although it wasn't clear until the last few months.

I am pretty sure both my kids are right handed. They have both predominately used their right hands for eating, coloring, etc. since they were very young.

DD shows a really strong preference for her left hand. There's obviously still time for her to switch at this point since she won't be 2 until August, but so far she uses her left hand for a lot of activities.

I think both of my girls were around 2 when they started favoring one hand . I have one lefty and one righty.

Jack is definitely a lefty. We started to think he was around age 2, but by 3 we were pretty sure. It's noticeable in t-ball and soccer now too.

DS is left handed and it was noticeable by age 2. He fed himself with his left hand, always put his crayon in the left hand and most toys were picked up with his left hand first.

We knew DD2 would be left handed by 2 years, maybe a but sooner. She's also left footed.

DD1 is right handed, and I don't remember her having a strong preference before 3.
