Baby monitor question

We just have a cheapie handheld monitor. It's worked great for 16 months, but just the past couple of nights, it's started putting out a lot of static. Nothing has changed as far as where we place it or adding any electronic devices that could interfere. Any ideas?

Maybe try a new battery? Our monitor is a Graco, and I was able to order a battery from their site.

Actually, we did just get new neighbors on the other side of our duplex. Hmph. How would we fix that?
