Elimination Communication

Anyone doing it?
Someone on a Facebook Mommy2Mommy group I'm in recently posted about it, and I admit, I had never heard of this before. Basically it's a way of potty training (or going diaper-free essentially) from day one. This woman claims her 5 month old is potty trained. I don't know.. I have a tough time believing it. Sorry if we've discussed this before. Anyone have experiences with it? Seems INSANE to me!

    I have heard of it, no experience however.

    ETA: I don't have the time to dedicate to something like that.

    My friend did it from about 3mo. Basically she watched for his "signs" then held him over a toilet. He would pee or poop then. So it worked until he became a toddler.

    He's nearly 2 and not PT. She said now he's walking and playing and gets too excited and doesnt want to spend time using the restroom.

    I don't know anyone else who's done it. So I can't say if it auctually works.

    I have a friend who kind of "half ass" did it. It worked well for her little boy. He is 2 next month and can wear underwear at home, but wears a diaper when they are out. I thought it was pretty cool. Apparently very common in other countries.

    With that said, I do not have the patience. At all. Ever.

    So the point is basically it's better for the environment and not necessarily the child will be potty trained faster? If I'm understanding it correctly?

    I guess?? Sorry to P&R.. Had a preschooler poop-mergency. Haha. It seems so strange to me.. Esp the peeing on the street between parked cars?!
    I don't get it. To each his own I suppose, but I could never dedicate the time to that. Nope.

    I saw that lady's post of FB too. It seemed like a very weird post and I don't buy that her 5 month old could communicate like that. Did she ever get back to the questions she was asked?

    I don't remember her username exactly, but I think Breanne ... Something did it with her son.

    While I think training an infant is far fetched, I did implement some of this theory with DS1. We started putting him in the potty at predictable times ( ie: upon waking or before nap/bed) at 10 months. Then we would make the sound.
    We did not go diaper free but worked on potty training slow and steady. It worked well for us he was day trained at 18 months and was fully trained just after his second birthday. The daycare actually commented how awesome he did.

    I think there should be no pressure, just a natural positive process. I plan on starting with DD soon.

    She did.. She posted her blog which was according2shirley.blogspot.com. She wrote all about how she did it. He's basically poop trained but not pee. TBH, it sounds like more of a pain because now he doesn't poop in his diaper and only wants to go in a toilet. Depending on what you're doing and where you are, sometimes that can be a challenge... But anyhow, kinda crazy.

    Unless her 5 month old can get himself to the potty, undress, sit on it, and do his business when he needs to, he's not potty trained.  She's just trained to hold him over the toilet multiple times a day.

    This makes more sense, doesn't seems the same as "elimination communication". I don't have any experience nor would I have time for that.

    I seriously contemplating doing this this morning when I saw him making his poop face. I wouldn't ACTUALLY do it, but I thought about it. 

    Man... a life without poopy diapers.

    I get it and it sounds like an overall neat idea BUT:

    I've got too much stuff going on to be able to hover over the toilet all day waiting for LO to go.  Plus, not being a SAHM, I would never ask my sons caretakers to do this.

    Cool if it works for you, not my style though...

    I guess it is not but we used the 'pss' sound as a que and learned his signs. I like that part of ECing but am not for completely diaper free either!

    This warrants a "just you wait" with a maniacal laugh. :)) it sounds somewhat do-able until The Devil sends his imps to invade your toddler.
