NBR: wedding registry

Help me out ladies...we are going to start a registry soon for our wedding in December. We have lived in our house for a year now and we have stuff...not the best, not the worst. I don't want to put a bunch of junk we won't need on it.

What was your favorite item you received for your bridal shower/wedding? I'm thinking a steamer is a must...because no one has time to iron #amiright?

Nice casserole dishes (like cast iron le creuset), nice pots and pans and silicone cooking accessories

Those were what we REALLY got the most use out of...!

Congrats. I had been on my own for 10 years when I got married so I was in the same boat. I like fancy stuff so I was excited to register for china and crystal. I host a few holidays each year so I get lots of use out of it. I use my serving platters all the time as well. I have some cool tiered things and several chafing dishes We also registered for a grill, patio furniture and accessories, fire pit, etc. getting all that was awesome. Getting matching towels and high thread count sheets was great too. I went the whole margarita/martini glass route and that was a waste for me. They are rarely used and take up a lot of room. They are now in my basement. I've had friends do the honeymoon registry thing and also register for electronics (iPad, tv, etc.).

Pots and pans deft. I also liked putting things on there that I considered a splurge. I know I'll buy something we need like a steamer, blender, etc. but something like a cake platter or a vase that isnt a neccesity I would probably hesitate to spend money on. Also, I love pretty bowls and trays. If you don't really need much, go for stuff you would have a hard time spending money on.

I was wondering what you guys thought of this...you can register at a travel agency for people to fund your honey moon (some of it) or get you a massage or something...I thought of doing that since we already have some things...

I couldn't decide if that was tacky or not lol

I lived on my own before H and I moved in together and we also lived together before getting married. I registered for new bakeware(mine was old), bigger pots, bedding, new towels ours were a mix and didn't match, shower curtain, a good knife set, and some smaller items.

I don't think it's tacky unless you request people to gift it.

I love my Corningware baking dishes, Pyrex bowls and pie pans, we got some really nice towels and sheets from BB&B, and an "horderv tray" thing (see pic). I wish I had gotten a nice platter for Thankgiving turkeys and whatnot, and a nice cake tray (all things I had to purchase later).

Also, we did the honeymoon registry thing - our friends all thought it was genious, but the "older crowd" didn't like it as much - they wanted to give tangible items.

I was actually going to say steamer. I got a really nice one and use it almost daily. Ironing is for suckers.

@carawasa‌ I have to agree that I think the money gift stuff is a little tacky, but like PP said, might depend on your family and friends. It's probably ok as long as you register for other things as well though.

Yea, it would be kind of like "andplusalso" if you'd like to gimme some money towards our vacation you may do so.... not soley register for a honey moon...I'm leaning more towards not doing that..

no to the honeymoon fund...but depends on your circle, really. i have a few friends who have done that, and i've gifted to the fund twice, and purposely avoided the fund twice.

1) don't register for any Martha Stewart stuff, it is crap. 2) everyone needs a kitchen aid mixer 3) le creuset and all-clad stainless are the best 4) our wine refrigerator broke after like 4 months and it was expensive! I think it was cuisinart. I would go minimalist, only get things you really need and get high quality items. 5) some ppl will still give you money, you can use that towards your honeymoon and ditch the dedicated fund so it does not appear that you are starting a collection. 6) Oh, and congrats!

I guess I was thinking maybe you could casually throw it in there. I got a wedding invite recently that had something similar but asking for gift cards. Agreed that people will most likely give money, anyway so it might not matter much.

I got married 11 years ago. I can't remember who gave us money (we did get quite a bit). I do remember who gave is the useful things we still have. A nice TV tray set, corningware, measuring spoons/cups and an ice cream scoop.

This is actually what we did - we had like three or four activities that we registered for via a website. We paid for our wedding, and most of the guests knew that, so they thought it was a great idea to help us out with the honeymoon.

That's pretty cool! Did you register with a travel agent or is there a specific site you used?

The things we got that I love and use all the time... cutco knives, decent quality pot and pan set, matching plates/bowls/mugs and all white platters and bowls for when we have holidays or parties.
If we had bought our house already we probably would have registered for stuff from Lowes or Home Depot. It seems like there is always something that needs to be upgraded or repaired in out house!
