LO suddenly hates the crib, more food questions...

Ok I need some advice. About a week ago we started some oatmeal once a day. Also, over the past week, LO's sleep has gotten worse and worse and now he just cries in the crib. Last night we ended bringing him in our bed and he did ok but then woke with some serious gas. I'm at a loss for what to do. Could it be discomfort from the oats? 4MW? He's happy otherwise. And I feel like I'm failing for bringing him into our bed :-( I'd appreciate any advice!

Maybe the oatmeal is too heavy??? If it were me I would try some rice cereal and see if there is a difference. GL!

I've been bringing lo into bed off and on the passed 2.5 weeks since she started waking up frequently. Only way I get sleep lately thanks to 4mw. She sleeps better next to us. In her crib she's up every 3 hours.
I do put her back in her crib after a few hours of sleep with us.
I have no advice. I'm at a loss too just waiting and hoping this phase goes away soon ( thought it might be as two nights ago she was only up twice but back to 3 times last night.)
Just saying don't feel bad about sleeping with LO.. I do it for my sanity too.
We . EBF so I'm starting to wonder if I should start some oatmeal perhaps. I don't know.

  • @LP0198‌ that's what I was thinking, but the reason we started with oatmeal is because the pedi said to skip rice cereal due to concerns about arsenic. I was also wondering if maybe his digestive system isn't ready yet (he was born 3.5 weeks early).

  • @sweetsouthernmomma‌ He poops once a day so doesn't seem like constipation. There is lots of gas though.

  • Meh, LO sleeps in our bed most nights. It makes for happier baby and better sleep for us though it does put a crimp in sexy time. It's nice to wake up to a smiling baby!

  • @sweetsouthernmomma‌ We started gas drops today so hopefully that will help. We haven't tried any other foods yet. I think I will try some veggies and back off the oats for a bit. I hadn't thought of barley. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hmmm?? Maybe go straight to fruit or veggies and skip the grains all together right now. Pears or apples are usually a safe start and don't usually cause constipation. Then reintroduce grains in like a month.

  • Arsenic in rice cereal??!!
  • I would either wait a few weeks and try again with the food, not all babies digestive tracts mature at the same time or offer the food in the morning so his body has time to digest it long before bedtime. Also there is nothing saying you have to start with grains, but if he's having trouble digesting oatmeal then I don't think fruits or veggies would be much better as they are also full of fiber.
