Emergency Kits

Where do you store yours?

I feel like I'm over thinking this, but I need to put together our Earthquake kits since we have had a lot this year, but where do you store them? MH says in the house. Buuuut, if there is an earthquake large enough to need the kit wont it be because the house was destroyed? And if the house is destroyed how will I get the damn kit? Why is this not making sense to me? I keep thinking in the car, but there isnt much room in the trunk. Am I way over thinking it?

Re: Emergency Kits

  • Ours is in the garage. After an initial earthquake we'd head for the cars for shelter against aftershocks or additional quakes, so the kit would be on the way.

They say not to put it in the garage because if you have food in it, it can go bad quicker. The temperature can get much hotter in the garage than it usually does inside the house. I've started putting ours in our hall closet. Most likely, a kit will be needed because power is out and water gets shut down. It's very unlikely now that your house will be rubble.

Girl... I live in an old ass house. I don't know. Our cars aren't in the garage either they are in the driveway but I would assume food would get gross in the car too then. I guess the closet by the front door is the best bet. Thanks!

  • @abseptember‌ I actually saw a deal on living social for 2 backpacks that sparked it. It has water, blanket, first aid stuff, meal replacement bars, flashlights, and a bunch of other survival stuff I suddenly can't remember. It was two 20 lb backpacks for $50. I know a lot of people around here put their own together. I'm sure I would miss a ton of stuff if I had to.
