Pregnant after 35

I'm a PW today. Anyone else have Federal BX/BS insurance?

Trying to find out whether or not the genetic testing is covered is like trying to cross a tightrope in the dark holding 2 angry cats.

  • I only had the panorama test and apparently the lab did something wrong so my explanation of benefits statement came back as me owing $1995!!!

  • I don't know either-I'm waiting for the bill. I had mat121 done. I 'think' it will cover for us over 35 ladies. Supposedly with mat121, if your insurance doesn't cover, the lab will charge something like 225.

But that's what the geneticist thought, I haven't tried that.
  • @2ndGeneration: That's how it was for my dd last year, but I think that no longer is in effect. And when I called FedBlue, it was a long and complicated procedure to hear that MAYBE it MIGHT be covered if they call the FedBlue program in California where the test gets performed (even though the blood draw happens here in Maine).

  • I had the Mat21 and we actually called the insurance company to see if we met deductible. Everything was fine until we received the insurance statement. Said we owe $1200. I called the lab, not much help there because they haven't heard from insurance, so we're just waiting.
  • The insurance company rep called the lab to get the billing code but it wasn't any clearer because the lab in California that performs the test isn't in the network. So that's why the insurance rep mentioned that I'll have to have the genetic counselor's office call the Fed Anthem in California.

I thought the whole point of being a federal freaking program is that it's standard across the entire country!!

  • PP, it's so weird-I'm BCBS Basic but all my stuff comes from Anthem BCBS of CT.

Still waiting on the EOB from the MAT121. I'll update when I get it.
  • Thanks!
