Bradley vs Hypnobirthing

Can anyone tell me their opinions of which one is better for what reason/type of person? I really want to arm myself to do it naturally, but I can't really figure out which one would be better for dh and I. I don't handle extreme pain very well. Even though dh was shocked out of his mind last time, he assures me he will be a rock this time. I thought I would like bradley more, but before we fork out so much money for the classes I want to be sure.

Re: Bradley vs Hypnobirthing

  • You should post this on the natural birth board too, you'll get a lot more answers. :) I have heard good things about both but haven't used either. I have had two med free births but didn't use a technique just am good at relaxing. Though I've thought about looking into hypno this time to see if it would make for a better birth experience since I'm in a less supportive environment this time.

  • Sorry I don't have an answer but I'm also very interested in what others have to say! I was thinking about asking this myself. To add on to the question, are the classes helpful if you decide to have the epi instead? As a first time mom I have no idea what I will really want so I am trying to keep my options open and not have too many expectations going in.

  • @Runninggal28‌ The classes are most definitely helpful even if you get an epidural. In fact I'd say a birthing class of some kind is helpful even if you PLAN for an epi. Most hospitals won't give an epi until about 4cm, some women experience intense contractions before then and having pain management techniques is very helpful.

Also I tell everyone who is even interested to try to go med free to prepare for it as if that is what they intend to do. I've heard many people refer it like training for a marathon, you wouldn't try to run a marathon without training for it and if you did you would likely fail but train for it and you're likely to succeed. There is no harm in preparing yourself with classes, the epi will be there if you want it but the med free birth is less likely if you don't prepare for it.

  • I've looked at just getting the books, but a lot of the reviews on BOTH books say it constantly refers to the classes. I don't really want to take the classes, especially with our schedule and the cost and daycare for DS.

  • I like bradley because it requires dh to be actively involved. I want him to be, and need him to be. The classes here are $300 for the 12 week session. We'd spend more than that on a doula. I've been thinking a lot about a playlist and what I think I'd like during what stages, but that's so hard to know ahead of time. I also know that there's no way we'll both make it to all 12 classes.
