Something new happened to me today....

...and all I could think was, "I have to post about this to TB & see what they think!" haha!

I am an elementary school teacher & one of my students was getting picked up early by his dad today, so I walked him to the office. He pointed to my belly & asked how I was feeling, which was nice, but then put his hand toward my belly & said, "May I?"  I was absolutely in shock & had about 3 seconds to answer so I gave an uncomfortable, "ok..."

He wasn't overly touchy or anything, but I have never had a man ask before....especially a non-family member. DH said, "At least he asked first...." which is true but I still think it was a little strange.

Any of you ever have this happen?!?!?

Re: Something new happened to me today....

  • I haven't had too many people ask ever, but I have never minded before until today. I hadn't even ever thought of a no response, otherwise I probably would have said it. Hindsight, right? I should say, "No thanks, it makes me uncomfortable."

There. Now I have it ready.   :)

  • No strangers yet, but one coworker did last week (without asking - she has zero boundaries) and I, as nicely as I could responded with a strained, "Dooooon't touch me please."

My other pregnant coworker said today that her sister had a complete stranger touch her belly on the weekend (yes she & her sister are both expecting!) so she reached out and touched theirs! They were in shock and jumped back, "Why would you touch me?!"
Having to explain to people that your stomach is STILL your stomach is completely alien to some people!

  • I never mind when people touch my stomach. I hvar co workers and church members do it sometimes and I dnt mindx but I am generally a touchy feely person, such as I prefer hugs to hand shakes, of course only with people I personally know.

  • That would have made me feel very uncomfortable. I've only had DH and DS feel my belly this time so far, but I never had a stranger try to touch me when I was pregnant with DS.

  • It's a little awkward, and I don't like non family touching me, BUT at least he asked!  At least he was considerate enough to remember it's your body and to ask permission first.

Awkward, but not creepy or invasive, simply because he was polite

  • I haven't had any men try to touch my belly yet... I wonder how I would feel about it. So far, it hasn't bothered me if friends or colleagues do but they usually ask first. I also teach elementary school and a lot of the little kids like to touch it or get close to talk to the baby. It's really cute!

  • No no and no! I don't even like family members touching my belly. I tolerate it but it makes me so uncomfortable.

I did have a man ask me if I was planning to deliver vaginally and if we were going to circumcise our son. Uhhh, what?!?! So awkward.

  • @brothers wedding this weekend a 55+ year old man who I have met once began to rub my belly. What's worse is the photographer caught t on camera. I agree... Awkward moment.
