OK, I hope no one gets upset by this. There was a post on Car Seats for the Littles on FB yesterday about a 13 month old who was forgotten in the car. One of the CPSTs posted a link to an article and suggested that anyone who thinks they could never do this, read this article. DH and I both read the article. It's a very difficult read, and if you are feeling sensitive, you may not want to read it. It is a very sobering article and describes some of the parents that have forgotten a child. These were all good, loving, attentive parents. Unfortunately, changes in the usual routine are almost always part of the cause. Just a warning, there are two parts of the article that DH and I found particularly disturbing.

Again, I hope no one is upset by this. With warmer weather coming, I though it was a good time to post this.

Im not going to read the article due to high anxiety I know I will get from reading it. But from what you described it is a great reminder about how important this topic is. Its actually one of my biggest fears that i will forget my kids in the car. Oprah talked about this and one of the things i remembered was to try and leave your purse in the back seat so you will have to go back there before heading into store or whatever. I know that there were more suggestions but that one stood out the most. Even awareness and this reminder of the topic helps. Thanks for sharing.

I should have added:

The most recommended thing to do is exactly that! Leave something that you need in the backseat so that you have to go back there to get it. Cell phone, wallet, purse, work bag, laptop, ect.

Thank you for the reminder. It was an incredibly difficult read, but I am hopeful that articles such as this, and the efforts of those mentioned, will help to prevent the loss of even one child in the future.

I will also refrain from reading the article right now and I'm eleventy months pregnant and an emotional mess. However, this is a very important reminder. Thanks for posting.

Ya, also not gonna read. I think it will upset me too. But what a fantastic reminder. I am lucky that my truck is a two seater so I don't think it would possible for me to forget her.

Thanks for this. I won't read it either, but the bag in the back seat is a good trick. I'm going to try and get into the habit of that.

Definitely a hard read. I can totally see how this happens, especially when a young enough child falls asleep and makes no noise the whole car ride. Leaving something in the back is a great idea!

I didn't read it, but I did see the Oprah episode about this. I still think about that mother and her child all. the. time. So sad.

One of my friends said she is still haunted by that Oprah episode when I shared the link for the article on my FB page. So heartbreaking.
