So I arrive early to get my glycola drink and dr didn't have it ordered. My appt was at 810 so I've been waiting 15 min to have it ordered, drink the damn stuff, have my reg appt and get down in time for the blood draw.
How annoying. I'm surprised they don't give it to you at your previous apptointment. My drink's been sitting in my fridge for a couple of weeks.
When I was going to take it I asked about this and they said no. In fact...they pour it into a cup and WATCH you drink it. You have to show them the empty cup before you throw it in trash.
Craziness.
They have the same policy at my clinic. They took it out of the fridge, poured it in a clear cup, and the tech stayed with me until I finished it.

I don't think this is very common practice. I would think most doctors would like to regulate when/where you drink it to make sure no one cheats the test.

It never ceases to amaze me how different everyone's doctors are. Mine is the same as @Valancyy - they gave it to me at my last appt, plus told me to drink it BEFORE I go to the lab so they'll have to do my draw within an hour.
OP, sorry to hear you had to wait. That sucks.
Exactly what my OB does. I drink it at home, then make sure I get to the blood draw an hour later. My old OB did the same thing.
I am surprised they let you drink it at home and come in... I say this because they were very specific with me about 1. not walking around because that can lower your blood sugar and 2. making sure it will 1 hr on the dot.
I wasn't given the drink prior to my appt last time, and wasn't given it last week either. I may call the lab and ask if I can pick it up before the test though, to put it in my fridge!
I take my test today, I will be drinking it on my drive to the doctors, it's a long drive from work. Once I get there I have to tell them when my hour is up so they can get draw my blood. This is how it was done my last pregnancy too. It's so odd how all practices are so different. I can't imagine anyone wanting to purposely cheat the test, especially knowing the risk factors to the baby having untreated GD.
I had mine today too.. they make sure you drink it within 5 minutes so the test doesn't get thrown off. I drank it a lot faster than that because it's just awkward otherwise. Later this afternoon I felt pretty tired and out of it.. yuck. Hopefully I only have to do this once! (for this pregnancy, anyway!)

My Dr gave me my drink at my previous appt. it's been sitting in my fridge. They did the same thing for my first pregnancy.
If someone is going to cheat, it's a them problem and are only hurting themselves.
6 weeks ago at my reg OB appt I took an unplanned glucose test b/c the day before my specialist was nervous I had GD. So my midwife went to the fridge gave me the drink, told me to drink it. Had my blood drawn an hour later. No waiting to get the drink....

I was given my drink at the last appointment when I scheduled the test. There's a label on it where they write details specific to my appointment time. Start drinking at x time, finish drinking by y time. Be at office 15 minutes before blood draw at z time.
For the three hour, they made me go to the lab and monitored the whole thing very closely.
I would be annoyed. I had mine done Friday, the technician said results would be back today, I called but the nurse never called me back with my results. I'm a little pissed about it, stop keeping me in suspense!

Ditto this. I was given the drink at my apt last week and don't have to go for the test until June 1. Interesting how differently drs handle it!
