Ergo NB insert BTDT moms?

I just ordered my ergo, and I passed on the insert because it's thick and hot and she will be here late July/early august. Good call? Do I need one? (I have other carrier options and I've heard about using a receiving blanket but I need to look into that more)

We started using our Ergo when DD was around 5 weeks old and never used the infant insert. Everyone I've talked to said it's really hot. At first we rolled a receiving blanket for under/beside her but soon we just put her feet into the waistband and it worked fine.

I have a moby, ktan, and some other nb options so if I can't use the ergo right away that's fine ^.^ @SecretAgentKate‌ Tulas are exciting! Which one did you get?

@SecretAgentKate, I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but her legs were froggied with a little space between her feet. Then each foot was tucked just into the waistband. As she got bigger, occasionally she would push with her feet, but mostly just to experiment. She didn't seem to mind and the position seemed natural/comfortable enough (for months Ergo meant she was practically instantly asleep). After she was several more months old, her feet finally reached around us so we could put her in normally with one foot on each side.

@SecretAgentKate‌ I love the zig zag!! This is my ergo. I'm so dang excited. I'm gonna stick My 18 month old in it as soon as it's here to try it out.

@Nuclearcupcake, I love that print! There must be new Ergo patterns out since last time I shopped. We still have to decide if we'll get a Tula or another Ergo since DD still loves to be carried. I got a ring sling that DS will start out in. DH likes soft structured carriers so we'll probably switch to that for out-and-about when he's a bit bigger.

I found this video that I thought was really helpful:

We put DD's legs in the Ergo sorta like she shows with the Mei Tai (legs in) except that her feet were just slightly in the waistband instead of at the bottom of the carrier.

  • @shevaCC‌ yes! It's a newer one. I'm so glad I held out because I almost got the gray galaxy stars print. Thanks for the video!
@SecretAgentKate‌ I'm a navy wife so I kinda have a soft spot for anchor patterns. :x

  • We didn't start using our Ergo until later last time (used the Moby a little bit at the very beginning), but I will probably try the infant insert (since I already have one) and the receiving blanket trick this time if needed. But we also have a ring sling this go-round, so we may use that in the early days (until the weather cools down a bit).
