Hi ladies, I'm not a regular poster, but have to brag on my girls!
On Thursday early morning, about 3AM, i woke up to use the bathroom and noticed my panties were slightly wet. I freaked and RAN to the bathroom and found some watery blood. I was told if I ever saw bright red, I had to go in right away because baby A's placenta was a partial previa/partial low-lying. So, I woke up DH and called the triage line. Of course, they wanted me to get it checked out.
We got to the hospital probably around 4:30 after dropping DS off at his daycare providers house as my mom wasn't answering her phone. His daycare is great, she was super amazing about taking him that early in the morning. When we got in, they hooked me up to the monitors, I was contracting, but not very regularly or very strongly. The resident did a check to see if he could figure out where the bleeding was coming from; I was at 3CM, 50% effaced and at -2. This was the first check I had had the whole pregnancy, so they didn't have anything to compare that to. They weren't sure if I was in labor or if the bleed was from the placenta. So, they admitted me to "watch and wait".
I told DH to go home aorund 6:30 because he has a paper route for extra $$ as 3 kids in daycare is quite expensive! Well, the attending doctor came in and said she didn't like my contraction pattern, she wasn't sure if the uterus was tring to stop the bleed or if it wanted to go into labor. I let her know DH had gone home and that he'd be back by 10. She thought that was fine and left. Half hour later, she came back in and said she still didn't like my contraction pattern and though DH needed to get back to the hospital just in case. So, I called him and he basically got home and turned around.
Between the time DH was coming back, the doctors changed shifts. The new doctor came in to talk to me about what was going on and what we were doing. They didn't want to stop the contractions, something to do with the way the pattern was, but they did give me a steriod shot for the babies' lungs. Though they said for it to take full effect, 2 shots are usually given and they would want delivery 48 hours after the first shot was given. So, the ideal would have been the babies born on Saturday. Not what happened!
The doctor then had to go into a delivery and from that, she had to go into a C-section. She had said she'd be back at 9:30 to talk to us, but unfortunately, she didn't get back until 11:30. Between those hours that I had to wait, my contractions picked up dramatically and I so wanted some pain help. Due to the doctor being in a delivery & surgery, I wasn't able to get any relief. ![]()
Finally at 11:30, the doctor came in to talk to DH and I and to check me again. By this time, the bleeding had subsided, so instead of checking for dilation, she put in the speculum to "take a look". Well, she could see the babies' membrane and it was pretty much go time. They immediately started getting the meds ordered, anesthesiologist was called in to talk to me and DH was suited up for surgery.
I was being rolled down the hall into the OR by 12:15. The spinal went in, I was laid back, the curtain was put up and they got to work. They had already started when DH was escorted in. He didn't see anything though. I was scared as can be, but didn't quite freak out like I thought I might.
At 12:51, Harper Grace was born crying away, 4lbs, 13 oz; 17 1/4" long. And at 12:52 Hailey Ryann followed crying away as well, 5lbs, 3 oz; 17 1/4" long. DH got to go see them while the NICU nurses and doctors were checking them over. I didn't get to see them for about 3 hours when I was wheeled from recovery down to the NICU and eventually to my family suite.
The girls are doing very well. They only have feeding tubes and the bilirubin light. They are having apnea spells, but they have been able to recover on their own most of the time. I'm expecting them to be in the NICU for 3-4 weeks. Though the doctor said it could be as little as 2 weeks, so we'll just have to wait and see. I'm being discharged tomorrow, I know that's going to be an AWFUL time ![]()
