My 4 month old DD will nap for 30-45 minutes in her crib but if I put her in her carseat she will go for 2-3 hours. We go to the Dr. today an am going to ask if this is ok. But just curious about other children.
My lap, his vibrating chair, on the couch with this special pillow he have for him... ANYWHERE but his bed. He likes to be near us. Whatever, he's small and portable,so it's fine by me.
Up until this week DS only napped in the Ergo carrier. ?We are trying (right at this moment) to break this habit. ?Right now, he's sleeping in our bed -- then I plan on transferring him once he has this down -- to his co-sleeper crib.....it's been 1/2 hr so far.....
DD sleeps in the crib mostly. ?Sometimes the swing. ?I don't think sleeping in the car seat is safe though. ?Something to do with airway restriction when the seat is not in the car.
I think this is a pretty common problem with no good solutions. DD sleeps in bouncy chair, swing, carseat or on me. She sleeps great at night in her crib but not for naps.
Saturday I came home and DH tells me she just pooped, she was sitting in her bouncy. He was going to change her and then she fell back asleep. So I tell him he still has to change her (no flames on DH, haha) and she slept thru the whole diaper change! So then he lays her in her crib and 10 min later she is crying.
When we are home, 30 minutes in my lap or on the couch, but when we are out, 2 -3 hours in his carseat. Maybe that's my excuse for shopping too much now, I like the longer nap times
The couch (supervised), not his pack and play anymore. He prefers our bed or the moses basket. His new favorite place is a huge down comforter I have and folded into what looks like a dog bed. He LOVES it. I think he wants to be near us as pp said. But the only place he STTN is his crib. He just wont nap there.
When we are home he sleeps either in his PNP, swing or bouncer. I think we may start bringing him upstairs to his crib though & see hwo that goes. If we are out & about he sleeps in his carseat since that is where he is. He normally sleeps about 1 -2 hours at a time, but lately (past week or 2) it has been an hour or 2 in the morning & 2 or 3 half hour to 45 minute naps in the afternoons. Not sure if this is a growth spurt or what. LOL!

Ditto even though she's fine to sleep in her crib all night
Crib or pack 'n play. We also let her cry and fuss for a minute or two before rescueing her (but she's almost 4 months old - I wouldn't recommend this on a tiny)
I'm guessing your doc will encourage you to start a routine so baby knows when and where to sleep.
