Re: Top baby names of 2013 released

  • I saw it on the news last week and got kind of sad cause our name moved up and it was already high on the list. I'm not gonna let it deter me though, I've loved it for years damnit!!

Woohoo my team green names didn't make the top 10... However my boy name is number 41 and girl name is 211. I can live with those numbers..
  • I was sad to see my baby name, Charlotte, move up to the 11th place. I've loved that name since I was 14, damnit! Oh well.

My Baby boy's name moved up a lot but as a girls name. This was always a concern for us. We worried it would eventually become a female only name whereas now it is both. We love the name and are sticking with it, but I do worry about it.

I was targeting a name out of the top 500.  Our chosen name was in the mid 500s in 2012 and now in the mid 400s.  Likewise, we can't be deterred now.  After all, he "signed" my mother's day card yesterday!  :)

  • The list is a little different in Canada, but I just checked the Canadian 2013 list and our name isn't even in the top 100. Not that it really matters, but despite being a totally "normal" name in my mind, apparently it's not very popular.

  • Ava and Isabel were a big pick for me. But scarlett won and it's not on there so that's cool!

    It's a BOY

My sister named her daughter Elsa because she wanted something uncommon. Elsa was in the 500's but now with Frozen, I'm sure it'll sky rocket.

My kids' names are all within the top 200, but my name hasn't even warranted being on the list at all since 1965.

    You know you're jealous.  :P

We are having this issue too. Do you mind if I ask what the name is?

Our name is Hattie, after my grandma, and it moved up over 100 spots to 570. :( I think Tori Spelling started it with naming her daughter Hattie.

  • Hattie is also the daughter on the show parenthood. Maybe that's why it's more popular now.

I agree. Fin is great for a boy. We're naming our boy Emerson. At first it seemed 100% masculine, but I was disappointed to see that it's more popular for girls in recent years. Haven't looked at this year yet.

All my kids names are top 100. DD2 is lower down, but the others are still high. DD1 is Emily, DS is mason, and baby girl is Zoe.
I never wanted anything too popular, but Emily was always THE name. Now when she's playing soccer, the coach yells "Em! " and at least 3 girls look up between the Emilys and the Emmas.

  • @ErikaLynn75‌ we are team green and if we have a girl we chose Emerson, but we are changing the spelling to Emersynn I think with a Y it's more feminine whereas the usual way of spelling is more masculine.

Same boat - if team green turns team pink - we'll be using Emerson Ann - not changing the spelling though. DH and I have a thing for original spellings.

We like the show! Her name is spelled Haddie though.

I have decided NBC is stealing my family names. Mine is Brita, like the girl on Community!

  • I love Haddie or Hattie. Considered Halle (or Hallie) for a bit but think we are landing on Lillian. Which I've loved my whole life as it was my grandmothers name but now it is #26 or so on the list with Lily as #27. Stinks but what can you do? It's still special to us. It's not like I was the only Kelly in my class and I survived!
