Babymoon?

Have you decided whether you will go on a babymoon with your DH or SO? We are thinking about taking a pre-baby vacation, but are having trouble coming up with where. We had planned on going to Hawaii this fall, but with the baby being do in the fall and me wanting to save as much leave as possible, I think that trip is out for now.  DH wants to do a cruise, but I'm a little scared of cruises with the issues Ive been hearing in the news.

I would luv to hear if you ladies are planning a babymoon or if you have already taken one. Also, if you don't mind, please include where you vacationed (or will vacation), how far along you were/will be, and your overall experience/thoughts traveling/vacationing while pregnant.

Thanks, ladies and I can't wait to hear about your trips!

We just got back from sort of a baby moon but we took the whole family with the idea that it will be hard to take the kids (9 and 12) on an elaborate vacay again for a little while and we really love to travel.  We went to St. John in the VIrgin Islands.  Are you East Coast?  We are on the East Coast in DC and had to connect in Miami and then go to St. Thomas and get a ferry to St. John.  I am 15 weeks along.

Because it's not a short trip, I definitely think you need a week.  Once you're there, it's beautiful.  Never seen beaches or water as beautiful.  Not even in Hawaii.  We are planning a weekend getaway just the two of us sometime before this baby gets here, too.  But local.  Happy planning!

Considering a babymoon made me realize how much our vacations revolve around enjoying the local spirits. :\">   We normally hit a local brewery or winery when we visit a new city and who doesn't like a fruity cocktail when at a beach?   It made me less enthusiastic about planning a trip and then, we simply ran out of time to plan a flight before my travel restrictions kicked in.   So instead, we've made a point of going out to some nice meals, shows, etc. here locally and just enjoying some quiet time together.    Good luck with your planning!

We're heading to Lake Geneva for a long weekend. I'll be 22w when we go. Trip was actually planned so we'll be close to a golf tourney DH is in (my idea....great course and he almost wasn't going to play it). We'll golf together that first day, and I'll shop andwalk around while he's at his tourney. Fancy dinner first night, and nice brunch at Grand Geneva before we leave. Probably hit some outlets on the way home :)

We went to Sedona for 5 days at the beginning of the month.  I was 20 weeks at that point & still very comfortable flying.  The doctor recommended that I make sure to get up & walk every 1.5-2 hours during the flight, which meant only having to get up one time.  We had a great time, went on a lot of hikes, relaxed, enjoyed the warm weather, went to the Grand Canyon for the first time, etc.  It was a bit of a bummer at night though, I would have loved to have sat on our balcony enjoying an ice cold local beer with my H.  It was hard watching him drink & not be able to join in, especially on vacation!

I wouldn't do a cruise while pregnant, personally. If the sea gets rough, the ship's rocking can get pretty intense.

We went to Cabo when I was 9 weeks along, but that trip was booked before we got pregnant. We're taking a long weekend in-state next month.

We booked a family vacation this June. I will be about 18 weeks. We are cruising to Bermuda. Probably not ideal but his son is 16 and probably won't have many more opportunities. I knew we woul get pregnant as soon as I booked this trip. :). We are hoping to get away before baby, We will see. Summers tend to be hectic already

We did before #1 and it was fun. This time around, I doubt it will happen. DD is 2 and we have nobody to leave her with. And taking a crazy toddler along is not exactly my idea of a babymoon.

Yes, I'm East coast. How did you feel about traveling outside the US? I know the VI is a US territory, but for example, we went to Jamaica in March for a friend's wedding and I was pretty sure I was prego, but not certain...anyway, I have this thing about being somewhere with reputable hospitals. I hate to sound paranoid or snobby, but someone did get sick on our trip and had to go to the hospital in Jamaica and didn't have a great experience.

We have been considering San Diego, Puerto Rico, and Key West. We want to go in June, but have been lazy about deciding and planning.

LOL @QOTR and @enigmasara - I agree, the fun of vacation is laying on the beach with a drink that has pineapple, rum, and a little umbrella...I guess we will all be waiting until next year!

Yes, St. John is a USVI.  I did actually need to research the clinic while I was there because I was possibly going to need to get an early Rhogam shot based on some spotting.  I spoke to the people at the clinic and the nurse was very nice and explained how i could get in there and see either a nurse midwife or the oB.  It made me feel pretty comfortable.  They do deal with high risk there, so if I had to do it over again, I'd feel good knowing there are people there on the island that could take care of me.  Plus, did I mention it's GORGEOUS?  It's really nice there.

We went to the USVI. It was only a 6-hr travel day from Ohio, including a layover. It was in the US and our health insurance still covered us if there were any issues. We spent most days snorkeling, sitting by the beach, or exploring town. We had a one-day boat tour of the BVI which involved some easy hiking and swimming. We went at 22/23 weeks. It was a great vacation and we want to go back.

Yes! This is our first baby, and I feel like we put a lot of trips on hold during all of our IF treatments. So we are going to Ireland! It's now or never (not never... but it will be a long time before we can do something like that again). We'll be going for 12 days when I am about 20 weeks.  It will be a bummer not to get to drink any wine or beer during the trip, but I'll get over that!

Wow Ireland - that's a major trip! Safe travels and have a great time!

I've actually started looking into the USVI, but still considering Puerto Rico and Key West. We really need to decide soon but I'm hoping to go somewhere in mid-June when I'm about 20weeks.

We went to the USVI last year. We stayed on St. John ( I wasn't pregnant then). But it was beautiful and relaxing. I would have felt very at ease if I was pregnant. Everything was clean, food was great! We did meet a couple who was on their "babymoon"  and they had a fantastic time.  I would definitely recommend going to the USVI :)

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

MH and I got married on a Sunday in 2009. The next day, I started nursing school. So no honeymoon and no trying for babies because it was the most stressful two years of my life. Then I was working as a nurse in the ICU and ED while MH was finishing up his OT program (he had been in the army and then in the police force and was making a career change). So no babymoon while we were trying to get pregnant with our DD (which took 18 months and included a loss). Now we have an 11 month old and we got pregnant WAY quicker than we thought it would take. So yeah, no babymoon. After 5 years of not sleeping, I'd just be psyched to be able to sleep for 7 hours in a row with no interruptions.

    I know. You're all jealous.  :P

@smile24k we stayed at Caneel Bay. It was fantastic, I would definitely recommend it. It's pricey, but You can get some good deals in the summer because it's the low season.

Last time we didn't go anywhere because I was preggers during the holidays and my mom wanted to throw us a shower ( across the country from where we live) so we had 3 trips to California during months 5 - 7.
This time we are going on a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas (I'll be around 22 weeks). I also wanted to plan another trip in Sept (during month 6 / 7) to maybe Scottsdale, there's a spa resort I love there...but alas my mother asked me to visit her at that time so I'm not sure it's gonna happen... I was thinking maybe I could change it to San Diego or just an overnight at a spa resort in Napa since that is close to my mom's house...

We stayed at Secret Harbour on St. Thomas. It had snorkeling right off the beach with a rental facility and restaurant as part of the hotel. It was also a quick taxi ride to the ferries which take you to other islands.
