Yesterday DH and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary. We pulled the top layer of our cake out of the freezer and ate it. It wasn't too bad, but not as great as it was a year ago. How many of you ate year old cake?
Happy anniversary! We did the frozen top layer. We had the catering company wrap it and seal it really well so I remember it being just as good as it had been the year before!
We didn't, but we had cupcakes and the wedding was in my home town and we moved to DH's home 13 hours away right after the honeymoon. That would have been logistically crazy- Trying to move all our stuff and keep cake frozen. Haha! Happy anniversary!
DH and I did this exact same thing. Unfortunately, it tasted disgusting a year later, even after being frozen lol. This especially sucked because I was so busy socializing at our wedding that I didn't get to have a slice the day of.
N14 October Siggy Challenge: How I feel in the third trimester (especially when DH eats my pregnancy food)
We will have the cake on November 2 (unless I'm in labor, haha). Our caterers just put it in a box, so I'm not sure it will taste very good, but it's the thought that counts, right?
dh and i had ours on our 1 year anniversary and it wasn't that good i dont think i really ate it. my best friend said hers was delicious so who knows. happy anniversary!

same! I wish we had a bigger piece..it was amazing!
I just started thinking about needing to pull mine out next week sometime! (Our anniversary is the 24th.) I'm hoping its still good... My family wrapped it up and put it in our freezer while we were on our honeymoon.
Funny story....one of my aunts went to eat their frozen cake on the 1st anniversary. They went to cut into it and realized the top layer was actually cardboard!
DH and I also ate our wedding cake on our first anniversary (and second too , The first year it was delicious (though not sure how it compared to fresh as dh and I only only enjoyed an initial bite when we cut the cake and didn't get a whole piece as it was all gone!). The second year it wasn't as good, probably because we moved and it didn't stay as frozen as we would have liked. Happy Anniversary sj+cm131!
We did, and I was about 16 weeks pregnant at the time. It gave me a stomach ache, and I probably would have preferred a fresh dessert. Oh well, we did it for tradition's sake.
We eloped. I made our wedding cake. It was super tiny but I saved the top layer and froze it. It was a delicious bite size good luck charm on our first year anniversary!
We did! Ours was delicious! Our baker wrapped the the top layer special in layers of plastic wrap, foil and wax paper. There was some special formula she followed for wrapping that supposedly helpd pervent freezer burn. It tasted as good as it did the day of!

I made my wedding cake and wrapped the top layer myself. It was in 7 layers of plastic wrap, 2 layers of foil, and a cardboard box. It probably would have been a bit better if I had slowly thawed it out in the fridge, but I unwrapped it and let it sit on the counter to thaw.
The cake held up really well. The frosting wanted to just fall of, but still tastes ok. There is a filling with strawberries and cream - that was the worst part.
Glad to see so many other people have or will enjoy the tradition.
We did! It wasn't as delicious as fresh but it wasn't bad either. We got our cake from Publix in Charleston and we're planning to order a mini cake with the same flavors when we go on vacay to SC next month... Can't wait!
I work in the wedding industry and a lot of bakeries are now providing small one year anniversary cakes for free as they don't want their clients to eat their cake after a year. I had cupcakes at my wedding and we didn't save any. We did however save truffles we gave away as favors. Frozen, year old truffles are disgusting by the way
We saved ours for the day after the wedding gift opening - I think I had 3 pieces since I hadn't had any the night before and it was freaking delicious. On our 1 year anniversary we just got a small, fresh cake from a local bakery to celebrate with.
We ate ours.....boy what I had to do to save this cake!! We were married in early Oct. 2012. I live in NY and where I live was affected by Sandy. We had lost power for 3 days and after that it was intermittent. Luckily my parents live close by and have a generator so we took the cake there.
A year later we planned an anniversary trip and ate it at midnight as our flight was really early on our actual anniversary. It wasn't as good as it was fresh but I was still sad to have to throw some of it out but there was no way we were eating the whole thing.
I'll probably contact my baker about getting a small anniversary cake for our 2nd!! It was so good the first go around.
Our cake was just wrapped up & in a box, but we ate it on our 1 year anniversary & it still tasted amazing! I've heard a lot of people say theirs didn't hold up so well. I guess we got lucky!
We saved ours, wrapped in the plastic wrap, foil, wax paper formula the cake lady gave us. It was ok. We each ate a slice and threw the rest away. I didn't think our cake was all that delish at the wedding, so I certainly wasn't expecting it to improve with age!
The wedding cake saga: Well we saved it and were going to eat it on the 1yr. Maybe two weeks after the wedding we went out to see a band we love play and we may have gotten a little tipsy. When we got home we wanted fourth meal. It was just sitting in that freezer begging to be eaten. We decided it would suck in a year so we should just go ahead. Ahhhhhh it was frozen! Nothing was standing between two drunk idiots and a cake. After all we were now owners of a new microwave-thanks great aunt microwave giver! DH puts it in for what he said later was like 10 minutes.. What?!? Seriously?!? It exploded. Fail.
