Mother's Day for DC???

OK, am I an ass here?  Anyone giving or doing anything for their DCP for Mother's Day??

I was leaving with DD the other day and another Mom came in to get her son and I heard her say to their teacher "there's something for you on the front table" - it was a Mother's Day gift!!!

So DD and I were going to make handprint cards yesterday for my Mom and MIL...so I thought I'd just make one for her teacher and the helpers too.  Well we failed at the attempt - DD did NOT like it.

Did I miss the note on Mother's Day for the DC staff???  Am I a jerk for not doing anything???  Now I feel like I should call and order pizza for the staff or something...

Re: Mother's Day for DC???

  • It does coincide with Teacher Appreciation week- could that be more what the gift was for? I got J's DC teachers a card and a little gift to give today but brought them donuts earlier this week.

  • Umm. No. Usually you see DC people having the kids make something for the moms but I don't see why you would give your DCP something for Mother's Day.
  • Are you sure it was a Mother's Day gift? This is teacher appreciation week. It was probably for that.

Crap!  Teacher appreciation week!?!  How do I miss this stuff?!?!  :-(
  • Nope.  If you were particularly close to a teacher who you know is a mother I can see buying her a little something but not for the whole DC.

  • My sitter is my BFF so not exactly the same but I gave her a card a $50 gift card to kohls for her Mother's Day present.

I think if you are close with the teacher you could get her a little something. Starbucks gf card for like $5-10 maybe.

Don't feel bad - the only reason I knew about Teacher Appreciation week was because our DC (center) posted a sign! I brought in a card and some cupcakes for LO's teachers.

  • Our DC was a little obnoxious with the whole thing. Each day there was a theme including Bring a Thank You note from your child for the teacher, parent hosted pot luck lunch, fill your teacher's case with flowers and I forget what else. I was out of town for work all week and felt bad asking DH to participate so I have a TY note, flowers and gc on Friday. And if I hadn't I would have felt bad since they did have a craft and cards from LO for Mother's Day.

Wow!  That's awful!  I get they want participation, but let the parents plan something...don't plan for them.

    Anyway...  :-)

I ended up bringing an Edible Arrangement for DD's main teacher had helpers.  Phew, glad I'll be more aware next year!
  • I've never received a Mother's Day or Teacher Appreciation gift from any of the kiddos I've watched. I'm not their mother. I'm not their teacher. I'm their day care provider. I get paid for my services.

I agree with this - but I also found that there is a specific Provider Appreciation Day as part of Teacher Appreciation week...who knew?!
