Scraped knees

Dd fell on Saturday and scraped her one knee up. Then yesterday we went to sesame place and she fell twice. The first time she fell we had to go to the first aid building, blood was pouring from her knee she scraped the day before. Then she got cleaned up, and later that day tripped again! Bleeding again, same knee. Poor thing her knee is all raw. She walks on her tippy toes and I think that's what's causing her to fall a lot. I mentioned it to her developmental pedi and they said as long as she not falling a lot she would grow out of it. That was last month, this month she seems to be falling a lot more than I think she should be. We go back next month to see them, but have to wait til then. She's still using the stride rite SRT shoes, they have the soft bottoms, which they said are better so she can feel and its supposed to help her walk better.

DD walks on her toes when she doesn't have shoes on but I don't think she can with her shoes on since we have the harder bottom shoes.

I think now they are just in the phase where they are overly confident in their walking so they are being less careful and tripping more.

  • My son scraped his knew twice in one day, poor little guy. Maybe she's just trying to walk faster? Mine is ready to really run, and he falls either when he tries to go too fast or doesn't watch where he's going. He's just ready to go go go and his body isn't there yet.

  • Isa fell into our coffee table this weekend and has a pretty good bruise on her forehead.  I think that she tripped on the edge of the area rug - It seems like she has more issues when the surface changes/transitions.  I've noticed it when we're outside in the driveway too where it's a bit more uneven.  I'm hoping that she'll grow out of it soon.

  • DD falls alot too...she thinks it's funny to walk on her tippy toes, but most of the time she trips when her feet get to moving faster than the rest of her...I figured it was just a phase and haven't thought too much about it.

  • Yeah I wouldn't of thought anything about it but she sees a pt when she goes to her ITAP appts, and they mentioned it so know I'm more aware of it.

  • LO goes through phases... I got light weight coordorys, and legging style pants knowing that she is falling /crawling around outside. If it is cool enough, would be keeping the knees covered.

Also, DH's theory is after a growth spurt, her inner ear is readjusting to the new distribution of bulk, so is a little more tip over prone.
