how do you wash plastic bibs?

I have these awesome plastic bibs with pockets but I can't figure out how to wash them. I was using the dish soap and a rag for a while and it worked but now they smell like mildew and I can't get the smell out!

I have let them soak in soap and water but they still smell! I can't find them anywhere to replace so I really want to fix them!  Also they can't be washed in the washer and I don't have a dishwasher.

 

Any advice?

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!     I scrub them with dish soap using my heavy duty hand-held scrubber thing.  Then I let them air dry hanging on the faucet of the sink.  I haven't had any problems with smelling.

    I always throw them in the washer, and air dryer. works for me! :)

    I have (accidentally) thrown in the washer and then air dried - came out fine (and clean and non-smelly!)  So now I do it on purpose.  Probably shortens their life a little but does actually get them clean. 

    ETA: I don't put them in the washer everytime they need to be washed - sometimes I handwash in soapy water and air dry.  But once they get too gross - into the washer they go!

    I was going to suggest the clothes washer too.  I just make sure to pull them before they get into the dryer.  We haven't had any issues doing it this way.

    These bibs I am using are also scoring high points with the ease of which they clean up after your child.  After taking the bib off my toddler and dump the lost food and spills into the sink or garbage.  I just rinse it under hot water, or place in soapy dishwater to clean and then set aside to air dry.

    I bet putting it outside in the direct sunlight one afternoon would help w that smell.

    These baby bibs I've been using for how many months never gave me a hard time in cleaning it. After my toddler's mealtime, I just take her baby bib off and dump the lost food and spills into the sink or garbage. Then, I just simply rinse it under hot water and sometimes I place it in soapy dishwater to clean, then set aside to air dry.
