Trouble TTC

My eventful month! (Loss mentioned)

Hi girls. It has been a few weeks between visits. When I was on here last I was saying that AF was late. Anyway, she turned up 5 days late full of blood clots & pain (sorry tmi) and judging by my day 21 prog test it turns out I was pregnant & AF was a m/c. I mean, I obviously felt disappointed that it didn't stick, but part of me was happy that I'm actually able to fall pregnant in the first place! Is that how you would take it? Will it affect my chances in consequent months?

Re: My eventful month! (Loss mentioned)

  • I'm so sorry!

I just read that the majority of first miscarriages are a positive sign (ability to get pregnant, as you said), and indicate a healthy take-home baby in the future. Only a very small % end up leading to unsolvable miscarriages.

As far as the upcoming months, I'm sure your RE will reassure you when your HCG levels are down and you're ready to do a treatment cycle again, as long as you feel ready, too!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't mean to be insensitive here, but how could they tell based on progesterone? I thought that could be all over the place either way.

    Good luck to you!!

  • Sorry for your loss. I completely understand that way of thinking, to be happy about becoming pregnant especially after trying for awhile.
But, no, that's not how I thought of it after my first loss or after my 4th. Unfortunately, I fall in that small percentage of women that have had recurrent unexplained loss.
There is no way to know if it will impact your future chances...most likely not.
    Good luck

Thanks for the lovely responses. In answer to your Q ky29, at CD21 it showed that I had ovulated, and then AF was later than 14 days after that. Amylev I didn't have a pg blood test. Sorry to hear you're in the same position - FX for us both!
  • I'm so sorry for your loss! I've often wondered how I would feel if I ever miscarried, since I've never been pregnant. I've actually thought that I might feel the same as you, at least there is some renewed hope for the future.

Be good to yourself! Hoping for some good luck in the very near future for you!

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this. I don't want to sound insensitive but just having a progesterone test at cd21 isn't going to tell if you are pregnant. I've see where people have a wacky cycle and a longer LP than their normal. Also not everyone has a 14 day lp, that's just the average. It's not that crazy to have a 19day lp once in a while.

Since I'm mobile and can't see siggys, were you on medication and had a trigger shot?
    Fucking bump!!!!

This is my question as well. Testing for HCG would be the only way to confirm a pregnancy/mc. I usually have an exactly 14 day LP but I've had a few cycles where they've been shorter and longer. Will you have an HCG test done? Idk how long it's been since your AF came. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

Like I said, I don't want to seem insensitive.  But you had a post asking about pregnancy tests, all negatives, and it looks like AF was 2-3 days late?  Just because you had progesterone tested at 7dpo, doesn't mean you were 7dpo.  I've had mine tested earlier, which still showed ovulation.  I'm thinking it wasn't a m/c.  I'm not sure if that makes you better or worse.

My LP will range from 12-16 days, and some are worse and more painful that others.  Sorry it's a confusing month!

Ok I see where you ladies are coming from - that's just what my obgyn told me. She said my blood tests don't add up?? Period was 6 days late too. I don't know..

Your obgyn said you were pregnant? Or what blood work doesn't add up? Like I said, some months our bodies are just weird, and we have longer cycles. I'm assuming you don't chart?

  • @Amykeir I totally believe that that is what your OB/GYN told you. It really sounds like she might be giving you false information though. I would really hate for you to operate under the assumption that you have had a miscarriage when you may not have been pregnant. There is probably nothing you can do about this cycle at this point, but you might want to consider looking for a RE, or at the very least a new OB/GYN. Progesterone needs to be tested at 7DPO, not just CD 21, or it really doesn't mean much at all. For example, for me last cycle, that was CD33. If I would have gone in on CD21, the test would have been completely meaningless.

I hope you know that we're saying this to be helpful so that you can advocate for yourself. I don't want to make you feel bad at all. It would really suck to be stuck in your position where you don't know exactly what happened, and I'm really sorry you're dealing with that.

Thanks girls yes she said she was sure I was pregnant based on my cd21 progesterone test. I do chart, although I'm on clomid, so my temps have been a bit out. From temps & cm I think I ovulated on CD15. What's frustrating is I'm in a small country town & have to travel an hour for appointments, so they don't offer cd7 checks or u/s for follies. I know it's a concern, but i really don't have another option atm rather than move!
  • AmykeirAmykeir member
And you're right, there's no way of knowing. I guess it doesn't make that much difference, but it's frustrating that my obgyn might be giving me the wrong information :/
