Ankle/foot swelling

I can't remember reading this if it's been asked, but sorry if it has.
I have recently had some swelling in my feel and ankles.  Nothing severe and my midwives know about it and aren't too concerned as my BP has always been fine.  It's just getting a little uncomfortable.  I'm wondering if anyone has had any success in finding any remedies for their swelling.
I've been trying to keep my feet up as much as possible, cut down on salt and drink lots of water.

Pretty much what you're already doing. Hang in there...the end is nigh!

  • Putting your feet up is most effective if you can get them above your heart. You may not be raising them up enough to reduce swelling. I've been tempted to try icing mine too but they are also super hot so it's more for cooling down than the swelling at this point. But I doubt that I do, it's too much like work and I'm too tired for that crap. ;)

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • Compression socks or stockings work well. They had them at my local grocery store, and Walmart.

  • All I can add is my dr suggested sitting in a pool or tub an hour a day. I sit in my hot tub (temp turned way down) most days and it's helped some. Plus I'm getting a slight tan.

Thanks ladies.  You have given me more ideas than Mr. Google did!
May have to go soak at the Y's pool soon!  And a visit to Walmart for (what I'm sure will be totally cute!) compression socks ;)

Try walking around a bit (nothing crazy, even just pacing around your house). It helps them from getting stiff and helps the blood flow. My OB recommended even having them elevated at night because you'll start out less swollen in the morning and it does work a bit.

  • Like everyone has said elevation, water, and low sodium is what my doc says works. It's also what has always worked for me in the PAST. Now that right at the end.. None of it seems that effective. I wake up swollen. :( OH swears it's my body cushioning myself and getting ready.. Lol. I'm sure my OB might laugh at his statement though, who knows. I've been warned though by all my new mommy gal pals that it gets worse after delivery before it gets better. :( ugh.

I actually use an ace bandage (the velcro type) and wrap it around my foot with a little ice pack inside and sit with my feet WAY elevated and it makes the world of difference. I haven't had tons of swelling this pregnancy but Friday, we went to Mexican for dinner and Saturday afternoon my feet looked like balloons. I was looking for a quick fix and it did wonders!
  • Compression socks and wearing only flip flops in addition to the others---good luck!
  • I soaked my feet last night and it seemed to help!

    I wear compression stockings
  • I too have been wearing compression socks, I like the toeless ones so I can wear flip flops because they do get a little toasty now that the weather is warmer!
