Vent- buying a house

Ok, so we went to new city, on the other side of the country, to find a new house last week. We are also getting married, starting a new job and having a baby all in the same few months, so there is a little stress in our lives right now. There were only 4 houses that met our criteria in our budget and we liked one. We made an offer and a few days later we were told that it was not even presented to seller as an offer 20k higher than ours had been rejected and this person doesn't negotiate. So, we make a higher offer (close to asking) and wait. Today we find out there was another offer that was lower than ours and he countered but they dropped their offer - what happened to not negotiating? So, we are the highest offer but now they don't like our lender - even though he is very reputable, he is not local. I need this house! We also finalized wedding details while we were there, but I just didn't get into it much as I was just anxious about the house. Ok, done now.

  • I feel for you - we close on our house in 3 weeks. When we were shopping there would be 10-20 showings the day is house was listed and then would be off the market. It became a full time job and we had some horrible negotiations... Just have to trust if it's the right one it will work out!

  • I feel for you too. Home buying is stressful no matter what, but especially when you're moving from far away. We are closing on our new house in a week, but before that we had to deal with all the stupid bidding wars and immediate showings just like @AmandaJean12‌ and @sngsoprano1‌ . We ended up getting the house we did because we saw it the day it went on the market and made an offer above list price that day.

Maybe if your out of state lender is an issue, your realtor could recommend a reputable lender in your new area. It would be annoying to submit all the paperwork again, but it might be worth it if it helps you get a house in the new area faster! Good luck and I hope it all works out soon!

  • Sorry you are having to deal with all if this. Hope you can find the right house with everything working out.
I understand the home buying process. With being out of town is even harder.

  • Ugh, I'm so sorry you're going through all this. DH and I bought our house a month before our wedding and it was a nightmare! The good news is we survived and so will you! It'll be a story you tell later down the road about how busy your 2014 was.
  • We have bought two houses and sold one and it is always SO stressful! I can't imagine doing all that, planning a wedding and being pregnant. I am confident I would have not made it through wedding planning or buying a house without wine. No idea how you are doing it!

Fingers crossed everything works out and you can close soon!
