Still doing board books?

This might be a silly question, but I'm curious about when I can start buying books with paper pages rather than board books. DD loves books, and DH and I love to read to her, so we have quite the collection... We buy books from the scholastic flyer at daycare, because I'm going to buy them anyways and this way they earn free books too. Those flyers always have good deals for packages of books, but they're always paper pages.

Do your LOs still do all board books? When do they start reading "nicely" (haha)? I just don't want to spend money on books that she's going to destroy - board books hold up well, but they cost more!

I'm still primarily buying board books because they are more durable but when she does get a regular book she is very careful with the pages. I think the board books tend to be more geared toward her attention span as well. She sometimes grabs my books, looks at the cover, flips through a few pages and then says all done. I don't really worry about her destroying it. I guess maybe it's time to start buying more regular books so we will have them as she gets older.

Have noticed LO is going easier on her books lately (not grabbing the flap on the lift up book & not using it as a meal replacement like she had beem). Not sure if this is a new beginning, or if we're just in a lull of desructiveness.

We still chew on them, flip the pages roughly, etc., so I think that we'll be sticking with board books for a while. You could always try it with a dollar store book - at least you wouldn't be out much if it goes badly.

My DS basically only gets paper books when he's eating in his highchair and I can read it to him out of his reach. Otherwise, he is reading board books and will be for the foreseeable future. He just managed to tear a page out of a heavy duty board book yesterday, so I shudder at what he'd do if he had free reign over paper books!

We have a mix of both. She is starting to do better with paper books, but she still rips pages occasionally. If I buy books, they are usually board books, but her grandparents keep buying her paper books and then wonder why I don't have them out or on a low shelf where she can reach them.

They aren't trying to rip pages out like they used to, but they're still pretty rough on books. We are definitely still in the board book phase.

DD doesnt like paper books as much as the board books. She will just try to flip through all the pages rather than spending time looking at them when we read them.

We're still doing board books, mostly. I've picked up most of LO's paper books at Goodwill. I'm spending maybe $.25-.50 per book, so if it gets destroyed, so be it.

We still do board books. That said, we've been trying to teach DD to read "nicely" with a few books with pages, too.

Milla is ok with regular books, until she decides tearing paper is the coolest. I see no reason to stop with board books, but if there's a normal book that LO will enjoy, go ahead and get it.
