Fasting Before a Procedure

I will be having a dental procedure that will require me to be put under with general anesthesia. My appointment is Monday morning at 10am and I have been instructed to not consume any food or drink, even water, for 6-8 hours beforehand. I know my supply may drop a little, but hopefully since it's just one day it will bounce back (right??). I'm more concerned about being famished and dehydrated! Usually I'm starving if I don't have breakfast by 7am and drink tons of water too. Any BTDT moms with suggestions? Do I get up and eat overnight? Try to eat and drink extra the day before? Not looking forward to this.......

Also, please disregard my ticker, DD is 7 months old. I can't figure out how to get rid of it despite deleting it multiple times :)

Re: Fasting Before a Procedure

  • I haven't had to do this, but I think one day of this won't be an issue. Drink a ton the day before and if you're up late, have a big snack then. Drink and eat as soon as you can after.

I had blood work done last week and had to fast for 12 hours overnight. I didn't have any issues.

  • Thanks everyone! I get lightheaded as well when I don't eat so that is more of my concern. Hopefully it will go ok :)

  • Also remember
That if you're having anesthesia you will most likely have fluids running so you won't dehydrate.
