Weird attention from kids?

I went to a party with a lot of 18 month olds, and they all seemed to gravtitate towards me. One just stood and stared at me. I'm usually popular with kids, but this was over the top. One just stood and stared at me for 10 minutes. Anyone else have a similar experience?

  • Most of my Kindergarten students could care less, lol. They were excited for like a minute then wanted to talk about their dogs having puppies! Oh, 5 year old attention spans, haha.

  • There are two babies I've interacted with recently in the 3-6 month age range who seem to smile more easily with me than my husband (it's usually the other way around). I feel like they're laughing at me because they can sense that I'm pregnant and that my baby is going to be a troublemaker or something.

  • Yes! We went with my 2 year old niece yesterday to her toddler gym class and all her friends wanted to play with me and give me hugs. I had never met these kids before!
  • I teach at a middle school and since I started showing kids I've never had have been flocking to me, asking questions and wanting hugs.

R u finding that it is mostly the girls flocking to u or both boys/girls?

My 7th grade son is now earning popularity points with the girls in his school over my pregnancy! They keep asking when the baby is coming, for details, how she will be "soooo cute" and how it is "so awesome" he will have a baby sister at home. The boys r not as interested in details about the baby, they r more interested in the way my tummy is growing.
These behaviors seem to correlate to middle school hormones, human growth and development classes, etc. At least those r my theories on it...
  • I get a lot of awkward stares from teenage tourists on the Metro here in D.C. I feel like a walking "safe sex" ad, ha ha!

  • @mapchick77 i'll be interested to check in with you over the summer to see how your metro experiences compare to mine :) now that i finally "look" obviously pregnant, the fun is just beginning. it's like a daily adventure / psychology experiment.

  • @anewadventure Yes! I have about a 20-25 minute ride on the Orange line which is fun times. Last week one day I had a woman who was sitting in a seat (I was standing) stare at me strangely for 3/4 of my ride before finally realizing she wanted to offer me a seat. And then there is the typical person who offers you their seat but only because they are getting off at the next stop. Last pregnancy I was riding the Blue line and people were so kind. Orange line, so far, not-so-much.

  • haha! i'm on the red line - a full 40 minutes or so. shady grove to dupont circle and back. in the morning, i get a seat since it is the end of the line. the fun starts on the ride home.

last week, i was about to sit in the last seat on a train, and i kid you not, this perhaps 28-year old "man" literally races down the train car and slips into the seat. promptly puts his phone in front of his face and tries to ignore all the indignant reactions. it was pretty unbelievable. and then, no one else offered me a seat.

the next day, i was on a full train, but not like packed-in-there crowded. after a few stops, a middle-aged woman exasperatedly, and loudly, says "fine, i guess I will give the pregnant woman a seat. sheesh!"

i don't envy you your orange line riding, either. good luck :)
