Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Question about Misoprostol

I was prescribed 800 mg (four 200 doses) and told to take all four vaginally at night.  So, at 11 pm I got them as far up there as I could and waited.  Just like I had researched, I started getting light cramps a few hours later but it was 1 AM and I fell asleep.  Around 3 I woke up to very painful cramps, which lasted until about six AM, when I got up to start walking around and felt the bleeding start- but then I didnt bleed again for another few hours.  Now, it's nearly 3 pm, I am bleeding lightly and the cramps are practically gone.

My question is, should I take my refill prescription?  THey told me to take it after 24 hours if "nothing was happening"- so, of course, SOMETHING is happening, just not the way I want it too.  And of course I feel like this isnt an emergency to call the on-call doctor.  I read that if the bleeding has started, it probably wont make a difference.....any tips?

First and foremost, I am very sorry for your loss and that you have to go through this. I would advise you to read the advice/experience thread that is stickied in this forum as it links to a thread of others who have posted about their experiences using misoprostol, I think you will find it helpful regarding what to expect. Obviously everyone's experience is different, mine for instance was not good and failed to get the job done. I ended up needing a D&C even after two doses. It sounds like it is not working for you so I would call in the refill and hope that it's all you need. How far along are you and have you passed larger clots and tissue? (I'm sorry that I have to ask, because I know it hurts to think of what's happening in clinical terms) If you haven't, there is definitely more that needs to be passed before you're cleared. Again I am so sorry you have to go through this and I hope you are able to get through the next dose without issue. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

  • Thanks everyone, I was at nine weeks when I found out there was no heartbeat, but they never told me how far along it had grown and I didnt think at the time to ask- at the first appt they told us that although there was a heartbeat, it was much smaller than they expect- so we knew going in to the nine week appt that it might not go well.  I have been bleeding lightly with small clots but I will just ask the doc tomorrow, I have to go in for an RH shot anyway.  I didnt want to spend my baby savings on m/c surgery but it looks like that's what's going to happen.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I really appreciate the support on the site.
