How much does the average person spend on a wedding gift? It's been FOREVER since I've been to a wedding and I was dirt poor back then so I can't imagine I spent much! I won't be attending the wedding. It's for my nurse
We give between $150-$250 depending on the person. If you're not going to the wedding, and it is an acquaintance, I think $50-$75 is totally acceptable.
I agree, since you aren't going I'd do $50-100 depending on how close to the nurse you are. Since you aren't going, its nice of you to even consider giving a gift. I think she will be grateful that you are even giving a gift.
IMO--people are generally rude nowadays and don't even consider doing this.
This is Sooo regional it's hilarious. You know how much a meal cost at our wedding? $8.50! (and it was a nice wedding.) Couples gave us more than $15 so they definitely didn't follow the pay for your meal etiquettee. Usually we give $50 unless it's a close friend or family.
@majwv8, Where do you live? I'm dying to know! $8.50 pp?????
My strategy is usually to look at their registry and use that as my guide. I try to give enough so that if they chose to use it to get something that wasn't purchased they would probably have enough.

Yeah, this really depends on what the expectations are within your circle of friends / family and how much the couple is spending. We typically bring $300 for both of us for friends. Occasionally $250 if it's a cheaper wedding. Travel costs are disregarded as the ettiquette in our circles goes like this: if you can't afford to go and cover your seat, you don't go and just send a gift instead. For close family we have paid much higher; however, we also received very generous gifts from family. The cost we cover isn't just the cost of the plate, but the "overhead" as well. However, I don't believe this is typical and most people find much less completely acceptable. Short answer: depends
Re: Wedding Gift
For my wedding people gave between $50-$500. $50 was from single people I believe, not couples.
