Anterior Placenta Mamas

I found out I have one which means that it's in the front and not the back so could block feeling movement for a while. For those mamas who have had this before, how long before you felt movement? My MFM said it might move and that was at my 13 week appointment.

I have a Sonoline B 3 MHz and have been hearing his heart beat for a while now because I hear it could be harder to pick that up too with an anterior.

Thanks!

Re: Anterior Placenta Mamas

  • I have an anterior placenta as well, and my midwife said possibly around 18-20 week till I feel even any flutters....

  • Thanks for this post, I'm anxious to read more responses!  I have an anterior placenta and retroverted uterus and haven't been able to find baby's heartbeat on doppler; I'm disappointed, but not freaking out.  I didn't know that it made it harder to feel movements too, boo.

  • With DD I had one and I felt flutters around 17-18 weeks. I was sure it was baby by 20. I have it again this time, but I'm hoping I notice flutters earlier since I know what it feels like now.

  • I felt what seemed like baby flips very rarely around 12 wks last time. It was only when I was bent forward. Other than those few moments, I didn't feel anything until 20 ish weeks. It was hard. He was super active and I only felt extreme movements or jabs.

I have an anterior placenta as well and I did not know any of this. Our doctor found our heartbeat right away so didn't say anything about movement. Good to know though and now I won't worry so much as I am 13 weeks today and have been awaiting little fluttery feelings.
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first two pregnancies. I felt baby #1 at 20w and baby #2 at 17w.

  • I have had both pregnancies I've had be anterior placenta. My dd I felt at 21 weeks for the first time. But with this one I've been feeling it since about 13 weeks. Mostly since it is sitting right on my bladder!!!!
