Trouble TTC

Advice

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and looking for some helpful advice. My husband and I have been ttc since September. Things were going fine I was keeping track of my cycles and doing well then in Feb. I stopped getting my period. I waited a month before I made any appointments. All my pregnancy tests came back negative. I made an appointment and my doctor ran a bunch of tests. We found out I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and along with that I am also insulin resistant. My doctor put me on medicine to jump start my cycle again along with metformin and once I finally get my period I have to start on clomid. I started eating more fruits and drinking a lot of water or v8 juice. I'm about 10 pounds overweight so I started walking as soon as it got nicer out. I was wondering if anyone has had the same situation as me and if they had any advice?? Thank you :)

I have the same situation and I was diagnosed last september but just finished my first clomid cycle. If you were somewhat regular before you gained some weight, losing it again is beneficial. Before I started BC I was regular then I gained weight and after I stopped bc it never came back. Fearing the worst I waited a year to go to the doctor. Right now im not much further than you so I dont have much advice but I am always here for support as well as all the other ladies here.

  • Get thee to an RE. It sounds like you are working with an OB currently, and the best piece of advice that I can give, something I wish I had been told, was go straight to a reproductive endocrinologist. They have the knowledge and experience and are specially trained to deal with infertility. I wasted about 8 months with my OB who really had no idea what she was doing when giving me clomid and out of all 5 cycles I only ovulated twice and both times were very late. Working with my RE I ovulated 4 out of 4 times, right on schedule. At the very least make sure she monitors your cycles including cd3, and cd11, plus a post o monitoring to check your progesterone levels as well as running tests like HSG and a SA for your husband, all the clomid in the world isn't going to help if there is another issue. The start of treatment can be a little overwhelming, but you've found a great place to come! Welcome to the board, I hope you stay is short and sweet! Good luck!

Welcome!  Sorry you have to be here.  First, I have to agree with @pmpknbride, and RE is the way to go.  I have also been diagnosed with PCOS but I'm not IR.  Back before I actually got tested I looked into dietary changes because I always prefer to change my lifestyle rather than take medication.  It didn't end up working for me because I don't have IR but it did make me feel a lot better overall, so I do still follow the diet just not as strictly.  Basically it's a low glycemic diet and the goal is to eliminate sugar, dairy, and any carbs that aren't whole grain.  There's a lot of info about it at https://www.pcosdietsupport.com.  Really tough to do at first but it gets a lot easier after the first couple weeks.  Good luck and I hope your cycles are back on track soon.

  • Thank you all for your advice so far. My DH did have a SA done and my doctor did say everything was completely normal with him. She said once I'm done taking the Provera I'm on to call as soon as I get AF and they will make an appointment for an US on the 12 day of my cycle to see how things were going and if my lining was thinning out and to do more bloodwork. She said she usually does 3 maybe 4 cycles with someone before referring to an RE and if there wasn't one in our area she would set it up so we could talk to one via satellite. @ktupiak‌ I've been regular off and on through my life. When I was in high school I was regular and I weighed about 125 pounds I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and was put on Paxil and I gained 70 pounds. I stopped taking that medicine 3 years ago and have had a very hard time losing the weight so that is why my OB thinks I got the PCOS was too much weight gain too fast. I'm hoping we get some answers and things work out for us both :)
  • Sounds like you have a really good plan in place! I'm like you, once the weather got nice it's easy now to get out and walk every day (and garden). I'm glad you're able to take some healthy lifestyle steps in addition to the meds. I'm sure it will have a positive effect, and it feels good to know that you're working toward this goal as well as putting it in the doctor's hands. :)
