Stomach sleeping

LO only wants to sleep on her tummy :( So far I only let her for naps a few times when I'm sitting right next to her, but I really want to let her at night. But obviously I'm terrifed of SIDS. Anyone else dealing with this? Have you found another way that works? LO will sometimes give me a few min of sleep in her swing or swaddled on her back in her bassinet but I'd really like a little more time - I'm exhausted! (She's 6 days old)

Re: Stomach sleeping

  • My first would ONLY sleep on his tummy. I got the okay from his pediatrician, her kids were the same. Make sure there is nothing around them. But don't dress them to warm either (SIDS) you can get a monitor to tell you if they aren't breathing though.

  • @MrsMeatball41‌ how do you know if you dressed them too warm???
  • Dress them like yourself, but with an extra layer. So for instance my house is 77 with ac- she is in a cotton sleep gown with a onsie on and socks. I have the fan on low and swaddled her in a / light flannel blanket

I have the angelcare monitor that alerts if he stops breathing and it gives me such a peace of mind. Maybe that would help you when she's tummy down? Then you at least would know if there is a problem immediately

  • I wonder if she just likes pressure on her tummy? I saw on Pinterest someone filled up a glove with rice so it was heavy and placed it on the baby's chest and tummy. I am not sure how old the baby was or if this is safe or not!

  • What is the monitor like? How does it tell you?

Angel care and snuza are the two I know about. I've never tried the snuza but it would be what you need if your baby isn't sleeping flat. They both sound warning alarms if your baby doesn't move/breath for 20 seconds. The snuza halo also vibrates after 15 seconds to try to stimulate your baby into breathing. Then after 15 secs of no movement and then alarms if there is no movement after 20 secs.

The snuza clips to your baby's diaper while the angel care goes under the mattress.

tessa sleeps like a champ in her inclined swing seat (it detaches to turn into a stationary floor seat and we use it for basically all sleeping that doesn't happen directly on our bodies).  she never lasts more than 10 minutes flat on her back in the crib.  for now, we're fine with just letting her sleep in the seat.  it keeps her close by our bed, gives her the rest she needs, and gives us the rest we need.  i think too often parents shoot themselves in the foot trying to do everything by the book (putting baby down drowsy instead of totally passed out, waiting to introduce the bottle or the pacifier, waking on the clock every 3 hours even if baby is sound asleep, etc) when in reality it might be better to just do what works and what seems natural (within safe means, of course)

Hey Mama! Which swing do you have? I am thinking of buying one (to try to curb the hours of screaming in the evening) and looking for opinions on what works.
