Pregnant after IF

Hostess gifts for shower?

My Mom, sister, and close friend are throwing my shower. I'd like to give them something to thank them. What did you do/plan to do? So far my mind is going to "starbucks gift certificate" which seems boring and impersonal and kind of like giving them cash, but ... I know they would use it. Would love to do something more personal, but want to make sure they would like/use it. Mom and friend are traveling cross country on planes, sister is two hour drive away.

Re: Hostess gifts for shower?

  • I know it seems boring & impersonal, but if they're traveling from a long way a flower or plant probably isn't a good option. What are they into? Reading? Crafting? Watching Movies? Going out to eat? Maybe a gift card to a store that supports their hobbies would be good.  Do they go to any theater events or plays where they're from? In the past I've gotten my mom a gift cert. to a live theater near where she lives where she's seen some plays. The theater was more than happy to send me the cert in the mail so I could give it to her. Same thing with a restaurant near where she lives, she said it was unexpected because they were local places, not national chains.  I haven't thought about what I'll be getting those that are hosting my shower. I tend to be a practical gift giver so it will be along the lines of a gift card vs. something for their house. They have everything they need and not a lot of extra room. I avoid getting others clothes or little purses or wallets because my taste is usually not theirs.

  • I got a Yankee candle gift basket for my MIL and she loved it. But she also loves Yankee candle. Pick something they like and see if you can make a gift basket. If my MIL like Starbucks then I would have bought her a mug, some coffee, some chocolates maybe a nice soft blanket to cuddle with while she drinks her coffee. You could also have a Starbucks gift card in the basket since you know it would get used.
  • Im trying to figure this out too. Was thinking a nice bouquet of flowers and gift card and some wine.

  • I am thinking of buying my MIL a nice picture frame for a picture of the baby (we'll put an ultrasound pic in when we wrap it for her).  It's not super expensive, but she would kill us if we spent a lot of money (she knows we'll be strapped when we need to start paying for daycare), and she loves having photos of her grandkids around.  I feel like it's just a thank-you gesture and doesn't need to cost a lot.

My stepmother is a big gardener, so I may give her a nice plant that she can plant outside somewhere.  But my sisters are helping her throw my shower and I have to say I have NO idea what to get them.
