Baby Showers

What do you wear to a baby shower?

I'm just curious.  I recently attended a shower where most of the guests (all women) had on jeans.  I wore dressy pants and a nice shirt (weather was cool).  I was surprised because I just assumed most people got a little dressed up for showers.

I'm going to another baby shower this weekend and plan on wearing a dress.  Both of these showers are held at firehouses/club halls.

Does the venue make a difference?  If it's held at a restaurant/hotel is it more of a dress up occasion, or are people just going more casual these days?

I'm still dressing up for showers, I like to dress up and I think it's an occasion where you should.

  • Yes, I've seen jeans at showers.  I wore jeans to my own shower.  They were the only pants that were truly comfortable.  I always dress them up, but yes, I wear jeans when I feel the location is fine for it.

  • I always dress nicer to a shower, whether it be a bridal or baby shower. I've never worn jeans regardless of where it is at -- with the exception of those few showers where they have been aon a farm and everyone wears jeans.

Depends on the season/weather, and location. In the winter, I would go to a shower in jeans and a nice sweater to most places. In the summer I may wear a sundress or something.
  • The last one I went to I wore a maxi skirt and a nice tank top. A bunch of women there were wearing jeans, but it was a casual event.

For me, it depends on who will be there.dI's dress up if it's a bunch of older ladies hosting at a church and I HAD to go or a work party and I worked for some "officey" typer place, but if it's just my early 20s friends I know they'll all be in jeans. I think it's just based on your social circle, I doubt there is a real standard "dress code". But really I don't even own a dress or "fancy clothes" so I guess I'd just avoid going if I thought it was going to be a snobfest.
  • I have never worn anything but jeans to showers (okay perhaps I have, since I don't remember but never went out of my way to dress up). Although most of them were for my family and my family is the type to throw their own showers for their 4th child and do a diaper raffle so I don't think they were the type of events to compare how to behave according etiquette. I never would have thought about what to wear until reading this.
  • A dress or dress pants and top...something I would probably wear to work.

I usually dress up for showers, but it also depends on where the shower is and who it is for.

  • I have worn both dresses and jeans to showers. Part of it is the location. Someone's house = more casual, restaurant = more dressy. A lot of it is just knowing your social circle.

  • I go business casual, usually.  Pants and a sweater or blouse if cooler weather, possibly a casual dress or skirt and a top for a summer shower.  I have seen people wear jeans to baby showers, but I wouldn't say it's the norm.

  • I have always gone pretty business casual since it is a celebration event that there are invitation menu's etc so to me that denotes more than casual attire *shrugs*

  • I have never worn jeans to a shower- even if the shower is at someone's home. I always see it as an event....I might be the only person in the world that likes to attend showers.

I like to!  I also like to dress up when I get the chance.

I always wear a dress or dress pants and a blouse. That's the way people in my family dress for those events. (And I would rather be overdressed than underdressed at a shower where I am unsure of the clothes style.)
