Short story: Finn was born on 4/29 at 10:30 PM after 22 hours of labor. 8lbs 3oz!
The very long story and I am taking a leaf out of Jellysparkles book with gifs!
I had actually started my maternity leave on 4/28, DH and I discussed it and made the decision after I was admitted to the hospital with pre-e symptoms that turned out to be nothing. At 11:50 pm that evening I was laying in bed sleeping when I was woken up by a wet feeling. I just knew it was my water breaking and not CM, I was right and luckily I ninja'd out of bed just in time for a HUGE gush. I was expecting a trickle but nope,
I am very thankful I have hardwood floors.
I called the midwife and they had me come in for an NST right away. Poor DH had not slept well since about Sat and I felt terrible to have him drive me to the birth center, but he sucked it up and got us there.
Unfortunately during the NST Finn was not doing too well, his heart rate was dipping to the low 100s and he was not moving very well. Queue serious freak out from me, luckily DH and the MW calmed me down and we were admitted to the hospital to be monitored for a while. We actually had the same nursing team from the night before when I was in for the massive headache and high BP, they made the short stay pretty nice as once we got to the hospital Finn decided to have a dance party and a HB in the high 130s. So I was sent home to labor at about 2:30 AM, they told me to get some sleep and call them at about 9AM. HA!
My contractions started so I called my Mom to come down from NH. I told DH to head on upstairs to get some sleep, I was only in early labor so I could be on my own.
My Mom arrived at about 530 AM while I was sleeping in between 10 min contractions. We chatted and napped as much as we could and by about 9 am I was 4 mins apart, I called the MWs again and they told me to come in and get checked.
I get in there and I am about 2.5 CM dilated, I was pissed but prepared to just stay at the birth center when my real labor started.
I managed for a while with my Mom and DH, but I started having double contractions where I would have two at once and then get about a 2 min break. This went on for a few hours and I was not handling it very well, I was tensing up during each contraction and making my own life hell. I think at about 2pm the MW came in again to check on me and I was only 5 cm.

Now I know that I was actually making pretty good time for a first labor but boy was I pissed, I remeber at that point telling my Mom how I understood why women got the epi, I had to talk myself out if it actually. Luckily for me the MWs saw how much I was struggling and they coached DH and my Mom to have me relax and sleep between contractions as much as I could and to not tense. Let me tell you how hard it was to breathe and relax through each contraction, I had great support from DH and my Mom. They each took turns laying in bed with me as I dozed and contracted for a few more hours, it was at this point that I actually started to focus on something during every contraction and my mantra was to spell Finns name with each contraction. We went from tub to bed to tub to bed until I finally reached 9 CM where I stayed in the tub to birth. My god did I love that tub, the water was amazing.
I really do not remember much of the last few centimeters, although once I reached 10 I became more clear and in less of a trance like state. The MW did inform me that I had a lip of the cervix still left so I couldn't push just yet. Let me tell you how difficult that was, my body was pushing on its own at that point. We waited through a few more contractions and eventually she was able to push the lip out of the way and I began pushing. I will say the pushing was a lot easier to me than the contracting, I felt like I was actually doing something. I pushed for about an hour and through the last little bit I was able to reach down and touch his head. The MW coached me that once his head was born I had to stop just in case if the cord was wrapped around his head, it was apparently as DH told me. Then I was told that it would take a little bit to birth his shoulders but apparently my body and Finn had other ideas as I pushed only once more and the MW told me to grab hold of my baby. He was pink and perfect with a 9.9 bishop score and quite a set of pipes and born at 10:30 PM exactly. I was moved to the bed for skin to skin while I birthed the placenta. DH and I spent the night there and went home the next day with our little man.
End story I did get a third degree tear and it has not been fun healing, but I would do it again tomorrow for my little rainbow. Say hello to Finn!
And, just as a side note, to all of the lovely people who told me I couldn't do a natural birth or that I would regret it.
