Stress

I am so frustrated, tired, and anxious

I'm taking school full time with 5 weeks left to go and we are approaching final projects and studying for final exams. All my classes are pretty intense and work heavy (biology, chemistry, and physiology classes all with labs).

I'm also working. My job is "part time" but the last month they have been making me work full time which is too much for me. My job requires me to stand on my feet for long hours and I am always scheduled to work til 11 pm. Since I have to be up at 5am for school every day I am not getting enough sleep or study time. My grades are suffering because of this. My only days off are the 2 days a week that I am at school all day.

My boss knows I don't want to work this much but tells me "If I need you, I need you, there's nothing I can do." Quitting is not an option, I need the income.

I called in sick today (my 1st time since being pregnant and probably in over a year, I always work thru colds and minor illnesses) in order to de-stress and rest and maybe get some homework projects done (my boss was mad I called in). But the de-stressing part is not happening since I found out my boss scheduled me to work I day I specifically requested off because my husband and I have tickets to see a famous comedian. The tickets were a gift I purchased for my husband and we rarely get time together so I was excited to have one day to get out of the house and forget everything stressing me out here.

I am so burnt out, this would have been hard for me not being pregnant, and I feel like no one really understands all these pressures and difficulties except for you ladies. So that is why I am here venting and being AWish.

Feel free to relate if you are also feeling under pressure

Re: Stress

  • I hope things get better for you! That does sound like a whole heck of a lot to be doing, especially while pregnant. I'm thinking about putting in resumes while out on leave. There are some things happening I'm not too fond of. I also feel like I get paid less than I should, which I know that sounds selfish.

If your boss need you that much why can't he hire someone else to take some of the hours off you?

  • @+RBL+‌ our store has to receive approval from corporate before we can hire so unfortunately it takes time. The good news is some employees are being trained for the same level position as me so I'm hoping I'll get relief sooner than later, it might come a little late for helping me out this last bit of semester but we'll see

@scarfbandit‌ haha we are going to see Jerry Seinfeld, my 25 year old husband is a huge fan (can quote the show seinfeld word for word). I've never heard any real stand up from him that wasn't in the show so it should be a fun experience

    I can commiserate!

I'm working full-time and taking my FINAL class!!!!!

andplusalso, there's a DH, DD, dog and cat that seem to need me too.  They're all kinda selfish.  lol

Fortunately, I only have one day at work a week where I'm on my feet almost the entire time.  Doing it all the time would be torture.

    Hang in there!

  • I'm so sorry.  You have so much on your plate.  This morning someone on the radio said something about school almost being out, and my first thought was that I'm sooo glad that my days of taking final exams are behind me!  I have vivid memories of the stress.  It's awful that you have work stress on top of it!

Hang in there.  When its all over, it will have been worth it!  Thoughts and prayers going out to you, and I hope your employer figures out a way to make things more doable.
  • @haliebabyx3‌ you're not selfish for expecting to be paid what you're worth! OP I am in awe and hope your boss can accommodate your Seinfeld fun and ramping down your hours. I just finished a project that required 11-13 hours of work a day for the last couple of weeks (including last weekend), and can certainly empathize. I just don't have the stamina to work that hard now; I felt like my body was falling apart. Anyway, enough about me, I hope YOU get some well-deserved rest soon.
  • Thanks for the support!

So far today I completed an extra credit project, found a co-worker who may be able to cover my shift for Seinfeld day, and de-stressed by playing some piano on my new keyboard so not too bad of a day

I'm sorry to hear all of this that you are going through . I can relate and say that I was talking to my fiance tonight about the stress I'm under. I work "part time" but it's more like full time with all the overtime I work. I'm on my feet all day so when I get home all I want to do is relax. Planning for a baby is stressful enough without having to work and school. Just think about it that you are giving your baby a better future. When you start to get burnt out and work and school are just to much just remember that you will be able to give your baby more. That's what keeps me going.
  • Ugh that sounds awful, I'm sorry! That was me last year, working a FT 40/hr week job, going to school nights and working PT on the weekend. It was pure hell and I can't imagine having to do that while pregnant.

I thought I had it bad now with working 50 hr weeks and getting ready to move!

I agree with PP that maybe you should speak with your doctor. Sounds like your boss isn't willing to budge too much. I get that he needs you, but you need to take care of yourself. Him not having anyone else to work should not be your problem. If you burn yourself out he's not going to have you at all!

Glad you were able to get a day off to rest a little. Hope everything works out ok, hang in there! :)
