  I always pronounce -ai- like the vowel sound in pain unless I have explicit reason to do otherwise because I was under the impression that was how English worked.

  Pain, and a girl's name.

  I do know someone who wanted it pronounced like Ann, so named her daughter Ansley.

  To me it is boys name - but that is because there are a few well known ones here and they are all male
