Re: GTKY 5/9 Edition
1. I try to stay positive even during hard times and trust that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and all the hard times are just part of the journey.
2. Only mothers day plans at the moment is that I am working. Have to talk to the siblings to see if we want to take my mom out for dinner.
3. Hmm right now I am wishing I knew a quick cure for poison ivy because I def got some while doing yard work the other day. Something random about me...the majority of my family is from Nebraska and until recently my grandparents owned a 5000 acre buffalo ranch.
4. Noisy people.
5. Saturday is a busy day. Dropping off our hazardous waste because it occurs on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Then walking in the March of Dimes. I am really proud of myself for how much I was able to raise at 1105 and donations are still coming in. Then rushing to my brothers wedding shower where we are sampling possible foods for the wedding. Depending on how I feel after that a friend is having a wine tasting/watching the Bruins game party that R and I may end up at.
The bump hasn't been uploading my pics at of late :-(

2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day? Church, teaching a class at church, lunch, getting the kids' haircut, and cleaning the house/yard in prep for the kids's party next weekend.
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc. I have learned more about football in the past 6m than I have in the preceeding 40y. That is what having a football obsessed son will do to you.
4. What's one of your pet peeves? People who don't do what they say they are going to do.
5. What's going on this weekend? Kids have their spring concert at school tonight. I am leaving work early to get dinner and then feeding/dressing them and 2 other kids in their class (one mom just had surgery and the other is the music teacher at school.) Questionable soccer game in the AM ( possible rain) and a furious clean of the house and cleaning of the yard (if it isn't raining!) We also need to plan the kids birthday party which we are hosting next weekend. Sun - see above!
tried to upload a pic of the boys, but they are on a blocked site.
@2brides did you let him/them watch any of the draft last night? What did they think?

1. It's been a rough week on the board. What inspires you to keep going during hard times (in general)?
I typically use my Mom as inspiration. She's a two-time cancer survivor. I also try to take stock of the things that I didn't know if I'd be able to accomplish, but have (getting out of my first marriage, getting to a point where S and I could be together, having Gabe). It always reminds me that difficult things are possible but sometimes require struggles.
2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day?
I have finally convinced S that we should go out to eat. We are going to go to a local seafood place that's located in a park shelter. Sounds sketchy but it's awesome. I'm hoping we'll be able to bike there with the little guy in a Burley that I'm going to try to get from a friend on Saturday.
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc.
There's a reasonably good chance that my job is going to change dramatically in the next few months. I'm terrified/excited/filled with dread all at the same time.
4. What's one of your pet peeves?
People at daycare that insist upon snarling traffic so that they can get a coveted spot near the entrance. No, you're actually not special. Flip a u-turn and park on the other side of the street like everyone else. Get outta my way, I wanna see my kid just as much as you do!
5. What's going on this weekend?
Lots of cleaning and house stuff (all while the kid naps, so let's hope he does well at that). We have some work being done next week so we have to prep for that. Also, see above for Mother's Day lunch. I think that's all we've got on the docket! Oh, and one of S's teams is in the Big10 tourney this weekend, so we'll probably watch that on tv.
Bonus: We always love a PIP!
I'm so bad at PIP lately because my phone storage is totally full. So I don't have anything new. But I do have this gem that our friend put together for me so I could order a cheesy mug for S for Mothers' Day!

2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day? We are going camping with our rad church, accompanied by DW's mom and her friend. It should be freaking spectacular. We are renting a big car to haul us all, and then sharing a cabin with our friends and their four boys, who are under 6. And William is sleeping through the night! It is amazing. I might write a post about this, but it refers to question 1. Basically, he hasn't slept through the night in months, and we needed him to by Saturday. He has officially been a perfect sleeper for the last three nights. Whoop!
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc. I think I'm going to start a dog-walking business. We live in a beach town and I might call it "Sandy Paws Dog Walking, where dogs get presents every day of the year." It is so ridiculous that I like it. Also, I like really, really cheesy things because I think they make fun of themselves, but then I worry that people don't know I'm being redonkulous and that they might think I only find it funny on the first level and not on the next. I think this is a hipster flaw, but I'm too old to be a hipster. I'm like the aged hipsters on Portlandia, though I would deny it vehemently if anyone said it to my face. But it is probably true.
4. What's one of your pet peeves? In general, uncouth behavior. Elbows on tables, no manners, etc. Ooo! No placemats or tablecloth. When we eat without placemats I feel like I should be standing up with a stack of plates and then winging them out like frisbees to rattle on the hard wood, preferably with a cigarette dangling from blood red lipstick-lips. That said, we do it. But it irks me something fierce.
5. What's going on this weekend? The aforementioned rad camping trip. Yay!
Bonus: We always love a PIP!

"Things separate from their stories have no meaning. They are only shapes. Of a certain size and color. A certain weight. When their meaning has become lost to us they no longer have even a name. The story on the other hand can never be lost from its place in the world for it is that place.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing
1. It's been a rough week on the board. What inspires you to keep going during hard times (in general)?
My mom always said "and this too shall pass" and I think I remember that a lot in hard times. Even things that seem impossible in the moment are so different a week, month, year(s) later. Generally I'm an optimist, and I feel super lucky in my life overall, so I try to think of that too. I remind myself that so often some 'disaster' is squarely a 'first world problem' and I need to keep things in perspective.
2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day?
Two of my sisters are going to see my Dad for his bday on Sunday, so they are doing something with our mom on Saturday; so my sister M and I (we went together to see him for his surgery so that was our dad trip) are going to take my mom to brunch on Sunday, and then M is helping plant and maintain our garden this summer, so we're going to do the planting.
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc.
Yesterday was the 1-year anniversary of my sister's dog dying - she was a Pug and a member of our family for 15 years and we all loved her. My sister had one of these made with her ashes and it's so pretty! It's a paperweight with ashes swirled into glitter. They aren't cheap but I may do this with our dead cat array (we have 3 urns) because it's way prettier and practical too.

4. What's one of your pet peeves?
For the love of effing god, THERE IS NO "X" IN ESPRESSO PEOPLE. I know, it's hard, but there is really, really no X. "Expresso" is not a word. I promise you. Say it with me: "Essssssss-presso." That's it. You got it.
5. What's going on this weekend?
I am taking the chickens to their new home. I am taking the chickens to their new home. I am taking the chickens to their new home. Really. It's happening.
Going to get going on the nursery a bit as J is clearing out some stuff in there today. Otherwise I just have paperwork and piles to sort through and organize. Rest, go to yoga, walk the lake...the usual. Sunday noted above.
My home office (the couch) and my co-worker (Manny) yesterday:

@2mamazinseattle that is the exact phrase I was planning on using! I've had three family members in and out of the hospital over the past month. For some the prognosis is not good- and in fact is rather frightening. Hearing the word degenerative is tough. So, I've been breaking out that good old saying from my Grandma to remind myself that time marches on! I also really like one that's been floating around Pinterest that reads 'Whenever I have a really bad day, I just remind myself that so far my track record of surviving bad days is 100%. And I like those odds." I'm also lucky to have a job that centers on so much hope- children! I think this helps me on tough days.
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc.
4. What's one of your pet peeves?
5. What's going on this weekend?
2. Mother's Day is also my grandmothers 90th birthday. She is having a party at her favorite Chinese restaurant and lots of people are coming, it should be fun!
3. K is on her way to my work right now for the work baby shower. She's never visited me at this job and has never seen my office (in 4 years!!) So this is exciting!
4. I have to agree with everyone- flaky behavior, not following through, generally being unreliable.
5. This weekend is mostly my grandmother's big shindig on Sunday. Tomorrow we are planning to do some shopping and run all our errands.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!!
@rkbo yay LB! You are moving here just in time for Pride next weekend!
A & K, married 7/1/13.
After 10 months of ttc via medicated IUIs and two early losses, we finally got our boys- Perfect premie twins born 5/27/14.
2. We are looking at a joint dinner with my parents and her Mom and siblings. We all get along so we try and combine holidays when we can.
3. I had three sets of some teeth. I had braces in middle school and had to have many extra teeth pulled before I could get them. Also, I have such a small jaw that I am missing 4 teeth but you would never know it. There simply wasn't room for them all.
4. One pet peeve is when I'm trying to talk and people talk right over me. This used to be a battle with C. I call her on it all the time, whether she does it with me or others.
5. Tonight we are going to a good bye party for one of C's cousins and his girlfriend. They are leaving for Wyoming for at least the summer. For once, I have no idea what the rest of the weekend holds. Definitely time on the bike as long as there is no rain. Also definitely getting groceries. We cleaned out our fridge last night and there isn't much left besides condiments and two drawers full of Gonal-F
Bonus PIP - C roasting marshmallows for s'mores for our 5 year old neighbor and me. We didn't have our sticks ready so she used a grilling fork.
Me: 30 DW (aka C): 29
Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12
***CP mentioned***
We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm. 8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy. We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET. I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.
11/14/14 - Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.
12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2
12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)
1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2
****All Welcome!****
We are Mommas to four fur babies - 3 dogs and 1 cat.
2. Mother's day was in March here, so it's already passed for us, but we went out with my mum and Laire's mum.
3. I speak Italian almost fluently.
4. When non-American people use their cutlery like Americans. I mean, fair enough if you are American, but otherwise you just look like a twit.
5. Sleeping. We've had a really mental past couple of weeks, and it'll be nice to just rest.
I have to go back to work so ill re-write it out later
For some reason it kept my PIP, so here is V on my back so I could do some sewing
I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread yet but I really appreciated the responses to this question that I have read. I've been having a really hard time being on an emotional roller coaster since Owen was born. I know the hormones postpartum are crazy - but phew. If things don't even out by my next midwife appointment (Tuesday) I'm going to have to ask for additional help/advice, etc. Anywhooo. It was inspiring to read all of your responses :-) One tool I've used to inspire myself in the past is making a list of "things" I'm grateful for. Seeing everything spelled out in black and white helps put life in perspective sometimes.
2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day? Nothing planned but I'd love french toast and extra sleep - please ;-)
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc. The reading glasses I am currently wearing have white duct tape on the side holding them together. (Kaden broke them and I've been waiting to get a new eye exam until after Owen was born since your eyes supposedly change during pregnancy). Getting a new pair is definitely on the "to do" list - but hey duct tape is Amazing!
4. What's one of your pet peeves? Really loud eaters (as is chewing, swallowing, etc.)
5. What's going on this weekend? Homework right now while the family naps. My Capstone presentation/defense tomorrow morning. My brother & sister in law are coming over Saturday too. Sunday studying for my final Exam (which I hope to take Monday morning). Really I can't wait for school (and this MBA program) to be over!!!
2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day? Oy...touchy subject. Obviously we can't celebrate with my mom; my MIL is out of state. My sisters, dad and I usually do dinner and a gift for my step-mother; she's not our mother but she is A mother and it just feels right to honor her. This year I offered to host dinner and now I'm regretting it. My wife's working and I'm going to be tired after our childbirth education marathon on Saturday. I'm hoping we can just do take-out instead. But my sisters and I still haven't settled on a gift, and I don't know when we will.
In the meantime, my dad sent an email to my sisters and my wife asking if they should do something for ME for Mother's Day. Not for my wife and I, for ME. My wife never saw a response so I am guessing my sister wrote back to him privately and pointed out that my wife should be included on any Mother's Day plans. He has a great relationship with my wife and totally considers her a part of our family and I'm certain he thinks of her as the baby's parent, but I just think in his head she's more of a dad even though she's female. It was sort of funny and annoying at the same time.
My wife and I discussed whether we wanted to celebrate OUR motherhood this year and the decision was that it felt jinxy. She's also working, so I don't know what we would have done anyway.
On top of this, my sister's dog has some kind of mass on his abdomen; they don't know what it is but he is getting an ultrasound tomorrow. That dog is truly like her child and if it is anything serious she is going to be an absolute basketcase for the foreseeable future. So to be honest I kind of want to run away and hide from everyone.
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc. @2Mamaz' random thing made me think of this...I once read a (fictional) story about people having their loved ones' (humans) bones ground up after death and made into bone china. I actually think it would be lovely to be turned into a beautiful pitcher or bowl or something rather than just rotting away in the ground, but sadly I don't think that is legal!
4. What's one of your pet peeves? Entitlement.
5. What's going on this weekend? Marathon childbirth class on Saturday. Mother's Day who-knows-what on Sunday.

That said, those feelings do generally pass quickly--sometimes within 20 minutes and almost always things feel better by the morning.
Also @Manada spooning me almost always makes me feel better even if I'm upset about things related to her/us.
2. We are taking M's mom to brunch.
3. I want Cheetos. And bacon.
4. People who seem to have no sense of who is around them and how what they're doing (stopping randomly, talking loudly, standing in the way of a door, smoking, wearing a lot of perfume) might affect other people.
5. House cleaning and organizing tomorrow then maybe settlers of catan with a friend. Sunday we will drive 1.5 hours to take M's mom out for lunch.
PIP: here's an outtake from our announcement video. Frannie resting her head on the sperm bank. We would have used it but if you don't know what it is, you can't tell it is a sperm bank.
We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.
Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.
Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response
IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***
FET #1 December 2014
C inspires me. We always have the ability to talk things out and we are always able to discuss whatever the problem is even if it is involving us. I think having a partner is so awesome and C is what helps me make it through!
C read a book once that involved something happening in a person's life and the person said they were like a pickle. Once you go from being a cucumber to a pickle you can never go back. This is how I feel about TTC...it has made me a pickle. Even though we are pregnant now, it still doesn't change the last year.
2. Are you doing anything for Mother's Day?
We are currently visiting my parents. We are having a picnic for my mom and grandma tomorrow...it's gonna be nice!
3. Tell us something random! Any thought will do...could be about you, something you read/learned lately, etc.
It was so boiling Africa hot in my parents house last night. C and I keep our house refrigerator cold and last night I thought my skin was going to melt off.
4. What's one of your pet peeves?
Bad grammar and rude people.
5. What's going on this weekend?
Like I said we are at my parents this weekend. We are going to breakfast with my aunt this morning, then we are bottling the wine we made a few months ago, then probably just hanging out with my parents. Tomorrow we will have a picnic and then head back home!
Bonus: We always love a PIP!
I'm so lame...I never have a PIP...

2. Z's mom is still in town. Today is Mexican Mother's Day (MIL is Mexican). We're going to take a trip to the hill country - Fredericksburg - and do some wine tasting. With a baby. Hmmm. Maybe not too much wine tasting since Z doesn't drink, I'm nursing and therefore done after one drink, and Z's mom drinks very little. But, we'll also walk around and go into the shops. It's a cute town and we'll have fun. Unfortunately, I need to spend several hours on Sunday working. Blah. But, I told Z that I would like to work from a coffee shop or something so it's a little less depressing.
@ball.and.chain - we have a very sweet woman who we pay to clean our house. She came yesterday and left a Mother's Day card addressed only to me. Made me cringe. She's a very sweet person, just not sure that she quite gets it.
3. I really enjoyed reading this blog entry from The Happy Herbivore who is a proponent of a plant-based diet about the defense of her mantra, "progress, not perfection" and nutritional elitism. https://happyherbivore.com/2014/05/progress-not-perfection-wrong-elitism/
