AW: Advice for my next IUI

Hey ladies,

AF is (hopefully) going to show today or tomorrow and I'll go in early next week for my CD 3 appointment.  I'm switching to a new and much better RE for one more IUI cycle and then on to IVF if the IUI is unsuccessful.  As I was leaving my initial consult with the new practice last week the nurse asked me if I was planning on using the femara again or if I wanted to move onto injectables (spelling?).  I asked what she thought and she said that they normally have people try a couple of cycles of one thing before moving onto the next.  Since I'm only doing one more IUI before moving to IVF it got me thinking if maybe I should try something different...The RE's office is closed for non emergencies until Monday so I thought I would ask those of you who have experience with this.

Last cycle I had 2 follies measuring 19mm and 18mm and a bunch of smaller ones around 10mm on trigger shot day.  My E2 was 1058.  I thought that was a good response, but with my low AMH of .20 just because I have nice looking follies it doesn't mean there is a viable egg inside.

Re: AW: Advice for my next IUI

  • Question, what is AMH? (I feel like I have probably had all these same tests I'm just not calling them the same things)

I've not done injectables (other than trigger shots) so I don't really have an opinion other than femara + IUI hasnt worked for me yet. Wanted to wish you good luck though. Hope AF shows her stupid face soon for both of us so we can move on to the next cycle.

  • I've said it before, and I truly act this way for myself- go big or go home. I would totally do injectables. I'm a candidate for natural cycle IVF and said eff no, give me any extra chance I can get. Not everyone is like me though, so take my advice as what it is, just another opinion. Do what you feel is best for you. You've already done two cycles w femera right? It could be 3rd time is the charm or it could be your body just needs a little extra boost. Personally I'd want to try the extra boost before moving on to IVF. Good luck!!!

  • What are the costs like?  Personally, we will probably go straight from Clomid IUIs to IVF.  The injectible meds are so $$ and I'd rather have a better shot with IVF.  My AMH is low, and if we do IVF they want to do a S/A with Halo first and then IVF with ICSI and PGD.  If that's what they want from IVF, I'm ust going to go straight there.  I'm willing to do clomid IUIs for 2 (MAYBE 3) cycles because it's relatively cheap.  But then we'll pull out the big guns and do IVF.

  • @Bananappeal145‌ AHM is one of the tests they use to assess your ovarian reserve. It indicates the quantity (not quality) of eggs left. At 36 my AMH is what a woman would see in her 40s.

@Momarazzi007‌ I'm with you!!! Go big or go home!

@MrsLaurenandDan‌ good point about the cost...IUIs and medication associated with IUIs are covered but I haven't specifically checked for injectables.

  • I have limited experience, as I've only been on 1 medicated cycle & it was with follistim. I think it comes down to what you're comfortable with and the cost. If you're covered insurance wise, full or in part, I say you go for it!
